After my latest unboxing of Miss Mouette, I couldn’t help but notice the size of the box (Read the reveal: Part 2 – Miss Mouette Joins the Hermes Family). My newest Birkin, Miss Mouette, is a B30. Naturally, I would expect the orange box to be on the smaller side, yet this box felt smaller than I expected. After comparison, it turns out my new box is even smaller and narrower than the box for my other Birkin 30 in Bamboo. (Read the reveal: The Perfect Birkin – Green, Ghillies, and Gorgeous) Below is a comparison shot of my B30 Gris Mouette (top) & B30 Bamboo (bottom) boxes. The box for my new Birkin is about an inch shorter than my old box and a little bit more narrow.
My questions: Did Hermes intentionally change the box size for the Birkin 30? Did all of the Birkin box sizes change?

Purse, I’m so glad that you published this article because I’ve the same questions myself when I got the Rose Jaipur B30 last year. I noticed that all their boxes including the Kellys are smaller now. Wondering if it is just cost savings on freight for Hermes. An inch per box and a whole cargo of air freight Bs and Ks can translate to substantial savings. As long as it provides the same protection on the bag, it is fine with me since storing these boxes sometimes post challenges as the collection grows.

I think big brand name companies are cutting cost with their packaging. I had this conversation this month as I purchased a watch in Switzerland, I noticed (so did my BF) a considerable smaller box for the watch, then the SA advised us how big Names such as Chopard and Rolex etc…had gone to much smaller and less attractive boxes (which is really part of the experience) but customers really didn’t appreciate and started complaining and demanding their original packaging back….And I agree with them..
