Gucci Totem Pole: Fashion-Forward or Cringeworthy?

In the last couple of years, Gucci has undeniably become one of the most influential and innovative brands in fashion. Stars, models, and many of our PurseBop fashionistas have embraced Gucci’s logomania, trendy shoes, and quirky patterns.

Of course, much of this success stems from the eccentric and innovative mind of Alessandro Michele, who describes his process as “regurgitating, distorting, and assembling everything that has passed through me..”

So what has he regurgitated this time? The Gucci Totem Pole. Composed of three different clutch-sized bags attached by metal hooks, the purse tower has a sturdy double strap to carry the weight. Thanks to the metal hooks, the order of the bags is easily customizable. The totems have a wide variety of bags to suit your tastes.

A strange and unusual design, it’s very easy to find it offensive at first glance (it immediately reminded me of a postcard display). However, as I found pictures of the bag on the runway, worn by live models, I found myself soften. Approaching the avant-garde, and challenging notions of practicality, I found the bag to be interesting and provocative. While I doubt this will become popular in the mainstream, I could imagine certain forward-thinking fashionistas like Rihanna making it work.

The bag is sold out on the Bergdorf Goodman website but is available through our shop.

What do you all think? Would you ever take a chance on this totem? How would you organize your belongings between the three parts? Let us know in the comments!
