Delvaux Mini Madness

There’s been a total movement to smaller sized bags across every brand over the last couple of years. I would say today,  the mini of ‘anything’ has captivated bag aficionados across the board.

Delvaux is no different. They have mini sized their classic Brillant, Tempete, and even the Madame.

My focus will be on the Fall 2015 Rose Indien Brillant Mini. As till date, the Brillant is the only style I’ve personally carried and experienced.

True Mini

The beauty of the Mini Brillant is rooted in its incredible craftsmanship. A mini in the true definition of itself should be an exact duplicate of its ‘mama’ version. The Delvaux mini Brillant is exactly that. To confirm this, I thoroughly compared my limited edition Brillant MM to my new Brillant Mini. There were no corners cut in producing the baby version. Right down to every last detail, including the luxurious interior, the mini bag maintained the same level of craftsmanship as its original.

Remember goldilocks and the three bears?  How she searches endlessly for the chair that is ‘just right’? Well handbag lovers, this is PurseBop’s just right’ mini. It is small enough to be carried crossbody with the attachable, adjustable strap – and it’s very comfortable too! However, the Brillant mini is also prominent enough in size to be carried by hand in the evening. Sometimes, the ‘mini’ versions of bags get to be so mini that they don’t have the presence to stand alone. This is definitely not the case with the Delvaux Brillant mini.

Let me be more specific and compare the Delvaux mini to the Chanel mini. The CC mini sized classic flaps are fabulous for day time and casual affairs. They can be worn crossbody from day to evening, but lean towards giving your look a more casual vibe. The mini Chanel flap is designed to be carried with the chain – carrying it as a clutch or by hand is a little cumbersome.

The Delvaux mini lends itself to a more lady like feel when handheld (very similar to the Hermes Kelly). It’s size and structure gives it that impactful, yet elegant presence on the arm. The Chanel mini does not give this same effect. The strap length of the mini Delvaux really provides versatility in terms of wear.

Price Comparisons

This is where Delvaux loses me a bit. This Rose Indien beauty cost me a handsome $4400. That’s a mini bag with a major price tag. If my memory serves me correctly, last fall the fashion colored mini Brillants were $3600 (I remember this because I was contemplating the poppy red online at Barneys).

I had to stop in my tracks when my SA shared the price. Granted the quality exceeds its comparables, but an increase of approximately 20% within one year is excessive. The Brillant MM went from $4750 to $5650.

So the question becomes: “to mini or not mini in Delvaux?”
Not sure that only a $1250 differential will justify the choice to mini over MM.

  • I absolutely LOVE the fact that the mini has the longer strap!!! when I first saw the strap, the bag gained 1 million points with me hahaha it´s so pretty and so chic! Only thin I hated was to see how much the price went up… Oh my, not cool at all :/ but hey, if you can afford it without having to sell a kidney, then I say go for it… afterall, it´s a timeless piece that won´t ever be considered “last season”! :) xoxo
