Back to virtual reality for Chanel’s upcoming 2020 Métiers d’Art show . . . In light of France’s current lockdown, there will not be an in person show. The scheduled December 3 event will now be streamed online, following a December 1 filming at the Chateau de Chenonceau in Loire Valley, France.

As you may recall, Chanel was one of the first and few brands to resume an in-person catwalk during the pandemic for its Spring/Summer 2021 collection. Indeed, not only is Chanel known for its spectacle shows, generally, but it has emphasized the importance of live fashion events. On the other hand, we are all dealing with a different set of codes right now. It will be interesting to see how head designer Virginie Viard pivots to the digital format.

The annual Métiers d’Art show is where Chanel highlights its craftsmanship – featuring many of it’s luxury suppliers like embroidery Lesage and featherer Lemarié. In the past, this event travels to special locales like New York, Moscow, Hamburg, places for which the Collection ultimately becomes known.
