Would You Rock This Croc?

When it comes to fashion, we’re used to seeing some pretty outlandish things. Just last month, we reported on the sale of a virtual pregnant Hermès Birkin (you read that right). And, like clockwork, fashion’s next crazy concept is upon us. Balenciaga is launching Croc stilettos for Spring/Summer 2022.

Dubbed Balenciaga Crocs 2.0, the peculiar looking heels are part of Balenciaga’s second collaboration with shoe manufacturer Crocs. The design consists of a basic Croc style shoe with a thin black stiletto heel and a slight platform at the front. The Croc-stiletto hybrid comes in three colorways – bright green, gray and all-black.

The latest collaboration is part of Balenciaga’s Spring/Summer 2022 collection entitled Clone. Balenciaga Crocs 2.0 were designed by Balenciaga’s creative director, Demna Gvasalia, and are discreetly branded with the house name.

This is certainly not the first time Crocs have been integrated into high fashion. In 2017, Balenciaga teamed up with the foam shoe designer to launch pink platform Crocs with Balenciaga logo jibbitz. They sold out before they even hit stores. Gucci has also previously collaborated with the shoe company to launch bejeweled, Gucci logoed Crocs.

Balenciaga’s latest Croc collaboration doesn’t appear to be as comfortable as the platform version previously released. The thin stiletto heel is a stark contrast to the squishy Croc part of the design.

Regardless of whether people will actually find the style comfortable (or want to be seen wearing it), Balenciaga’s Croc stilettos have certainly made an impression on fans of both brands and fashion fanatics online. News of the collaboration has already made the rounds on social media, with many users making memes out of the design. One particularly comical post showed Cinderella trying on the Balenciaga Crocs instead of a glass slipper and then refusing to marry Prince Charming since the shoes were too ugly.

The new Balenciaga x Crocs collaboration also features knee-high platform rainboots.

What are your thoughts on this latest wacky designer take on Crocs? How does it compare to previous collaborations? And would you ever brave wearing the Balenciaga Croc stilettos?
