Would you go the VINTAGE route in search of exclusivity?

I just published an article that recognizes a trend we have discussed extensively here at PurseBop.com: the increasing need to find that ultimate feeling of exclusivity. Exclusivity is not coming from buying expensive anymore, but more so in the ‘rarity’ of an item.

There is a rise in the interest of VINTAGE, especially in ASIA where ‘buying old’ was not deemed desirable until recently. This rise comes from a need to find that EXCLUSIVE item… that simply having money cannot buy.

I want to know your thoughts? Do you have vintage luxury branded bags, jewels or clothing? If so, are your reasons for going vintage the same as outlined in the article, or different?

Honestly, I couldn´t care less about exclusivity LOL. I just want what I fall in love with, independent if no one or every one has it :) Plus, I usually go vintage when I can´t afford a new baby hahaha (don´t get me wrong though, Grandma CC is one of the loves of my life).

I think everyone likes to feel special and exclusivity brings us that feeling. That being said, I tend to buy something that will bring me joy, that will make my eyes sparkle whether it’s easily attainable or not. But if it happens to be vintage and will make me stand out, hey, I’m not complaining! ? women dress for women ? most of the time….?

Maybe something really rare, but I don’t like the feeling of using a bag that was maybe used by someone else, and I think I would always wonder if it is really real or not, so probably not for me, I like new and would rather save for a number of months to get that new piece xx

It was imperative I share this vintage Kelly20 with all of you that a friend arrived with on Sat night. I almost fell over, it is that precious ? Fortunately I had my mini to use as a size reference for the shot‼️

I adore vintage if it is from a trusted source and in really good condition like the previous owner carried it only a few times, etc. I think it also has to be a really “special to you” piece or a “holy grail” item that someone has taken a long time to search for. Too often like StyledGuy mentions, people describe things as vintage when it’s really faux, lol!! That I do not like! I do have a very favorite vintage bag I have been planning a “reveal” for – maybe this is the place!!! ?

I don’t get the love for vintage pieces. I tried a vintage Yves Saint Laurent shirt once and honestly.. it was a depressing experience for me. I felt like one of the normal people.

I understand in rare circumstances, someone wants to hunt down a specific vintage bag and that’s cool. But to actually say “hmm instead of a new Chanel, I’m going to buy some dusty old used one!” it’s crazy.

Also when someone says “it’s vintage!” I think fake, only time I don’t assume vintage=fake is when it’s a family heirloom or someone I know with a large collection.

That being said I do get the desire for “exclusivity”, I just don’t think vintage is the way forward.

For me it depends on the piece and the seller. So if its coming from my trusted vintage and antique seller i say yes for bags and accessories. But i am not in to buying vintage clothing or shoes.
On the other hand mi grandmother’s LV trunks and all her antique jewelry are my treasures, and when ever i use her pieces I feel closer to her.

I did buy some vintage stuff such as a Chanel Tote from the 1990’s and some accessories but honestly I would only do it in person in a store that has a great reputation. The reason why I bought those items was not because I was looking for them but because I spotted them and absolutely LOVED them. The bag for instance isn’t showy at all, and the other things are just of such high quality that you cannot go wrong. However, I would never go into a random second hand /vintage store and buy something, especially online! There are too many scams out there that will rip you off :( In the states I like to buy from Luxury &Co, and once I bought something from the Real Real. In Europe you can find some beautiful boutiques that sell high end previously owned items with great reputation.

I would love to get vintage but scared to buy online. I would need to see the item before buying to see if I can live with amount of scratches/scuffs on the bags! Haha…but would love to have Chanel or Hermes vintage pieces!!!
