Louis Vuitton Boosts Production to Meet Chinese Demands

Fashion is not an easy business. Even the most luxurious of brands struggle with sales from time to time—the economy worsens, a new fashion line just doesn’t catch on, or a brand becomes overexposed and profit declines. In short, there are many things that can go wrong.

But Louis Vuitton doesn’t have to worry about that at the moment. The French fashion house is currently thriving, according to Reuters, due largely to demand from the Chinese market. Now, LV has decided to meet that demand by driving up production. By 2022, Reuters reports, the brand will hire another 1,500 employees at their 16 workshops in France, where 4,300 people are already employed. LV will also open two more workshops in this span of time.

This isn’t the first time Chinese consumers have driven luxury goods production; it’s shaping up to be one of the defining economic trends in the sector this decade. The only question now is whether LV will continue to capture the hearts of consumers as its canvas and branding become ever more ubiquitous—in both authentic bags and fakes—in the modern world.

What’s your take? Is it a positive or negative move for the French brand? Will more LV bags ruin the brand’s sense of exclusivity? Let’s talk below.
