From luxury handbags to pandemic face shields, Louis Vuitton is proving to be master of the pivot. As you may recall, during the height of the COVID-19 emergency, Louis Vuitton repurposed multiple factory outlets repurposed multiple factory outlets. Instead of bags, perfumes and ready-to-wear, the designer powerhouse shifted to creating and donating non-surgical face masks, hospital gowns and even hand sanitizer to support French hospitals and front line workers. While the facemasks are (unfortunately) not for sale, the fashion brand has designed something for those wanting to look good while protecting themselves in this new reality that we all are facing.

As a part of their 2021’s ‘Cruise Collection’ Louis Vuitton has revealed that they will be releasing a new accessory- face shields. The face shield features the classic Louis Vuitton monogram on the elastic headband attached (with nothing less than gold studs- of course) to a photochromatic shield. The shield will become dark in the sunlight thereby protecting the user from harmful rays of the sun. According to Vanity Fair, the shield can be lifted up and also double as a ‘peaked hat’, ensuring that this accessory will have relevance even post the pandemic.

The face shields will be available online and at select Louis Vuitton stores, and while no official price has been confirmed by the French Fashion House there are plenty of rumors laying a $961 pricetag. However, you won’t be in suspense for too long about the price. The shield is set to be released on October 30th.

But a quick word of caution to those interested in investing in this stylish accessory- the CDC still has not found enough evidence supporting claims that face shields are adequate substitutes for masks. Perhaps wearing a designer mask under that designer shield is the solution!
