Dear PurseBop:
Do you purchase gifts for your SA, especially after a quota bag offer?
Dear Gift Giver:
Hermès has very strict rules surrounding gift giving by clients to their Sales Specialists. They strive to avoid the appearance of impropriety at all costs. Some clients choose to express appreciation for exceptional service or after being offered coveted items like a Birkin or Kelly handbag by giving gifts to their SA.
The generally accepted rule at Hermès for gift giving is that it must be something that can be consumed by some or all of the SA’s in the form of food items. Gifts intended for only one SA is not permitted. Generally clients tend to give gifts during the holiday season or special occasions. However, gifts may be given all year round, but it should be a quantity that can be enjoyed by most if not all the employees working at that location.
Other non-food gift ideas such as a personal note to your SA expressing your appreciation for their attention to detail, and lovely shopping experience they provide every time you visit the boutique is acceptable as well. This gesture is appreciated just as much as a gift meant to be shared among many employees. There is no obligation or expectation of a gift at any time.
If you’re considering giving a gift to your Hermès SA, it’s a personal decision, and there’s no one-size-fits-all approach. It’s advisable to be thoughtful and considerate, keeping in mind the store policies. It’s also worth noting that the focus should be on building a positive and genuine relationship rather than solely on gift-giving.
