US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seized two shipments of what appeared to be Cartier watches in Chicago on September 18, 2026. The 200 timepieces, shipped from Hong Kong to California, were identified as fakes by CBP’s Centers of Excellence and Expertise. Had they been genuine, the estimated retail value was $28 million.
Chicago Field Office’s Acting Director of Field Operations Michael Pfeiffer, said:
“Counterfeit and pirated products threaten our economic security by hurting legitimate businesses who invest significantly in resources to protect their brands. . . Additionally, these products often pose serious health and safety hazards to the people who buy and use them.”
