Is now the moment for owners of Hermès Birkins linked to the late Jane Birkin —the woman for whom the iconic bag was named —to consider selling? It certainly appears so: for the third time this year, a Birkin with ties to Jane Birkin has come to market.

Back in July 2025, her original Birkin —sketched by then-Hermès CEO Jean-Louis Dumas on a flight seated next to Birkin—commanded more than $10 million (including the buyer’s premium), soaring past estimates and setting a new benchmark. After a fierce bidding frenzy, the buyer was Japanese businessman Shinsuke Sakimoto, CEO of luxury resale company Valuence Holdings. Reportedly, Valuence plans to put the bag on display in various venues, including museums, and does not intend to sell it.

Shortly after, the Hermès Haut a Courroies bag, or HAC, shared by Birkin and her ex-husband Serge Gainsbourg was put up for auction at Christie’s. Used largely for travel by each, Birkin has said that the HAC was the inspiration for her Birkin bag. Estimated to sell between €100,000 and €200,000 on November 6, 2025, the published auction results do not include this bag, although the auction is listed as closed.

Now, another Jane Birkin-owned bag is going up for sale at a live auction on December 5, 2025, during Sotheby’s first Abu Dhabi Collectors Week.

The bag, one of the four gifted to Birkin by Hermès, is known as the ‘Le Birkin Voyageur,’  a rare 2003 40cm bag in Box leather. Written on the inside bottom of the bag by Birkin are the words “Mon Birkin bag qui m’a accompagné dans le monde entier, Jane B” or ‘My Birkin bag, my traveling companion, Jane B.’ The interior back panel reads, in Birkin’s handwriting, ‘Pour la F.I.D.H dans le monde entier…’ [“To the F.I.D.H, across the world…], while the interior front panel has drawings by Birkin or children (or angels).

According to Sotheby’s, Birkin inscribed the bag when she donated it for a 2007 auction to raise money for the International Federation for Human Rights. Sale estimates range from $240,000 to $440,000.
