How many Hermès leather workshops are needed for you to get your dream bag? If you’re still anxiously waiting, perhaps Hermès announcement of another production facility will calm your nerves. By our count, when it opens, this new workshop in Les Andelys (Eure, Normandy) will be number 28. At present, three other leather facilities are under development in Loupes (Gironde), Charleville-Mézières (Ardennes), and Colombelles (Calvados). They are set to roll out over the next two years.
The newly planned workshop will be part of Hermès’ Normandy hub, which includes the Maroquinerie de Val-de-Reuil, the Maroquinerie de Louviers, and the not-yet-open Colombelles facility. Hermès expects to hire 260 artisans for the Les Andelys workshop, who will be trained at the École Hermès des savor-faire. There’s no word on when this facility will be operational.
Will this 28th facility be enough to satisfy the seemingly never-ending demand for Birkins and Kellys? Let us know what you think.
