Kate Middleton is giving a beloved Chanel bag another royal outing. On October 20, the Princess of Wales carried her Vintage Square Mini to Windsor Castle, where she welcomed the Sultan of Oman for the first day of his three-day state visit to the UK.

The Princess of Wales coordinated the deep forest-green Chanel bag with a dark green Alexander McQueen coat, previously worn for the Irish Guards’ St Patrick’s Day parade. A Juliette Botterill hat, green velvet pumps, and gold drop earrings completed the look, with the tonal accessories creating a polished, coordinated finish.

Known for its generous crossbody chain, the Vintage Square Mini was styled differently for the occasion. The chain was noticeably shortened and tucked into the bag, creating a neat, short top-handle effect.
The vintage piece first appeared in her wardrobe this spring, when she carried it to the enthronement ceremony for Dame Sarah Mullally. The Princess has turned to Chanel on numerous occasions over the years, including carrying a Chanel Wallet on Chain as a clutch in 2015. She has also been spotted with a burgundy seasonal top-handle flap bag.
Vintage Chanel, royal approval, and a clever chain trick. Kate’s latest outing proves there’s more than one way to wear a classic flap. Would you carry your Chanel Vintage Square Mini with the chain tucked away as a clutch, or wear it crossbody?
