Will number 25 be the charm? The production facility that provides all the Birkin and Kellys on your wishlists? Probably not, but today’s inauguration of the long-planned leather workshop in Loupes (Gironde) is a step in the right direction.
Announced in 2022 with an anticipated (and now actual) opening in 2026, this facility is Hermès’ second in the Gironde department. The other is the Saint-Vincent-de-Paul workshop that opened in September 2021.
Loupes is expected to ultimately employ 260 saddler/leather artisans, trained by the École Hermès, also located in Gironde. And Hermès says training is open to anyone who wants to become a leather artisan; it is free, and trainees receive compensation. Submit applications through the École Hermès des savoir-faire website (https://ecole.hermes.com/).

As for Hermès continued development and growth of production, three more facilities are in the works and expected to go online over the next two years. The 24th workshop in Charente was inaugurated in September 2025.
