Are All Hermès Limited Edition Blue Box Bags Being Discontinued?

0

Dear PurseBop:

There has been a lot of chatter lately that Hermès has discontinued many of its limited-edition bags, particularly those that traditionally came in the special blue interior boxes. Is there any truth to these rumors? Which bags have actually been discontinued?

Dear Curious About Limited Edition Blue Box Bags:

The rumors stem from two separate developments that have become intertwined.

First, Hermès appears to have discontinued—at least for now—the special orange boxes with the signature dark blue interior that were once reserved for many of its most coveted limited-edition creations. Collectors immediately noticed the change, fueling speculation that the bags themselves were disappearing as well.

From what we have been able to confirm, the packaging change does not mean every former “blue box” bag has been retired. However, several highly sought-after limited-edition styles do appear to have been discontinued.

The bags we understand are no longer in production include:

  • Birkin 25 Sellier
  • Birkin 20 in exotic leathers
  • Faubourg Birkin 20 (all colorways)
  • Rock Birkin 25

Other iconic limited editions remain part of the Hermès universe. The Kelly Doll (Quelle Idole), for example, has not been discontinued. Instead, it is now presented in the standard orange Hermès box rather than the former blue interior limited-edition packaging.

As always with Hermès, discontinuations are rarely announced publicly, and they can surprise collectors by re-introducing designs years later. Until Hermès confirms otherwise, it’s best to view these developments as reflecting the brand’s current production rather than permanent retirements.

We’ll continue monitoring the latest changes and provide updates as more information becomes available.
