What is the Best Way to Care for My Hermès Leather Bag or Chanel Classic Flap and Other Luxury Bags?

Hi! I would love to know how to store my Hermès leather bags, Chanel classic flaps and other luxury bags. A step-by-step guide would be great!

Dear Step-by-Step:

There are definite steps to follow to preserve your luxury bags and enjoy them for many, many years.

• *During use be aware of not over filling the bag to avoid stretching the leather or causing creases or wrinkles;
• *For light colored bags be aware of potential color transfer onto the leather from dark clothing, denim, or other materials that may bleed onto the bag;
• *During use be careful (particularly with larger bags) of bumping its edges into hard objects such as walls, table, car interiors, etc.
• *Protect the inside of your bag from spills, pen marks, or food by using a bag insert designed to fit in the size and style bag you are using. Do not use a bag insert that is intended for a larger sized bag. This may cause the bag to bulge or have unnecessary indentations;
• *Protect your bag from exposure to sunlight, artificial light, and moisture from the weather or otherwise. If your bag comes in contact with a liquid substance such as water, dry immediately with an absorbent lint free cloth;
• *In humid climates use acid free tissue paper inside the bag and within the pockets so they do not stick together;
• *Care for your bag by examining it after each use and before storing it to insure there are no unwanted marks. Also inspect your bag for products that may have come in contact with the leather which may degrade the finish. Use a soft cloth to remove unwanted marks or products by rubbing in a light circular motion. If the product cannot be removed bring your bag to the boutique for expert cleaning.
• *Use a lint free jewelry cloth to clean hardware and Chanel straps mixed with hardware;
• *Storing your bag is just as important as protecting it while using. Store your bag in its dust bag away from light or harsh conditions. Keep the (Chanel) strap wrapped in tissue paper or inside the bag to avoid contact with the leather as it could cause indentations. Alternatively, store the bag in its dust bag in the original box in a cool, ventilated, temperature controlled environment.
