The fake luxury goods and jewelry just keep coming to the United States, with the latest shipment seized in Cincinnati, OH, containing 111 counterfeit watches, glasses, and headwear valued at over $19 million (had the items been legitimate).
According to US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the items found included 44 assorted Rolex watches, 4 Richard Mille Watches, 10 Cartier watches, 20 hats from Prada and Gucci (among others), and 62 pairs of designer-branded glasses.
This shipment originated in Colombia and was headed to a residence in Puerto Rico. Upon inspection and investigation, CBP’s experts determined the items violated intellectual property rights.
As you may recall, just last month CBP seized a shipment of 1700 luxury jewelry items that, if legitimate, would have been valued at $14 million. Included in that package were pieces purporting to be Van Cleef & Arpels and Cartier. Seized at the port in Louisville, Ky, the shipment was headed for Chicago from a Hong Kong address.
Not surprisingly, as the World Cup kicked off in the States, counterfeit FIFA merch arrived with it. CBP reports seizing $6 million worth of items in Houston, TX, and another $840,000 in Miami, just in the past week.
