Earlier this month, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) In Louisville, KY, nabbed 1,588 pieces of counterfeit jewelry purporting to be brands such as Cartier, Chanel, Dior, Fendi, Tiffany, Van Cleef & Arpels. Had they been legitimate items, the value is estimated to exceed $9 million.
The goods arrived in two express consignment shipments, originating in Hong Kong and headed to an address in New York. Upon detention, the CBP officer submitted photos and documentation to the Center for Excellence and Expertise for verification, which determined that the items were counterfeit.
