Geneva-based Gerard Wertheimer, the heir to Chanel, has officially claimed the title of Switzerland’s wealthiest resident following a surge in post-pandemic luxury sales. His fortune soared to an estimated 42 billion Swiss francs ($47.6 billion) last year, as reported by Bilanz magazine.

Controlling the iconic Persian fashion house, Wertheimer’s wealth eclipsed even the esteemed Kamprad family, founders of Ikea, as a result of a record-breaking year in fashion, perfume, and jewelry sales. This achievement marks the first time Wertheimer has surpassed the Kamprads in Bilanz’s annual ranking of Swirerland’s 300 wealthiest individuals.
Bloomberg’s latest assessment, as of June 27, 2023, places Wertheimer’s net worth at $44.8 billion. The privately owned luxury conglomerate, initiated by Coco Chanel in 1910, boasted a remarkable revenue of $17.2 billion in 2022. Among Wertheimer’s assets are three vineyards and a stable of racehorses situated in France.
