Dear PurseBop:
I live in a country where there is no Hermès store and I don’t travel frequently (e.g. for work) to a country that does. How can I ever score a Birkin or Kelly on a holiday? Is it even possible and if yes, what should I do to have any hope of scoring a quota without visiting a specific store frequently?
Dear No Where To Shop:
It is difficult to establish a relationship with a Hermès SA when there is no store in your home town. In this situation, the best option for you is to either shop in Paris or another location you may frequent during work or vacations. Here is our list of tips for shopping Hermès outside your home city.
- Plan a trip to your desired location such as Paris and try to avoid major holidays and fashion week;
- Start applying for a lottery online appointment as soon as you arrive and apply every day if in Paris;
- Try to shop with one SA in one of the three Hermès locations in Paris or the City you travel to;
- Buy all the ready to wear, jewelry, shoes, silks, belts, and homeware items you desire with this one SA;
- After choosing all your items, ask that SA if they could help you secure a leather appointment or if they could offer you a Kelly or Birkin;
- If you get an online appointment in Paris we suggest making a few purchases in store prior to your appointment to establish a profile before you meet your leather SA. This can improve your chances of being offered a quota bag.
Alternatively, other Hermès boutiques in the South of France have been known to offer quota bags but usually there is some significant pre-spend necessary. Most local boutiques reserve the quota bags for their local loyal clients but exceptions have been made if there is a large purchase made. Be aware that making large purchases in a store you visit occasionally is risky and carries no guarantee of being offered a quota bag.
Good luck and happy shopping.
