Dear PurseBop:

I am new to the Hermès world and just started shopping in my home store. I have met and connected with a Sales Associate and would like to build the relationship. How often should I visit my SA and do some shopping?

Dear New Relationship:

Making the decision to start your Hermès journey is an exciting time. A new adventure awaits you. One that will offer many expected and unexpected emotions. Here are some tips for making the relationship flourish:

  • Visit the store regularly by making an appointment with your SA in advance.
  • Depending on your budget and how quickly you hope to get offered a bag, visit once a month or more often if possible.
  • Make purchases during each visit of items you love, will wear, use, or give as gifts to family and friends. It can be small purchases or larger purchases. Vary your purchases among different metiers such as ready to wear, shoes, fashion jewelry, fine jewelry, watches, home, make-up, etc.
  • Do not buy only non-quota bags. A non-quota bag has the potential of delaying the offer of a quota bag in some locations. Often an offer of a non-quota bag is used to keep the client happy for a longer period of time before a quota bag offer is forthcoming. (There are always exceptions but be aware of this possibility)
  • Give your SA a specific wishlist of bags – quota and non-quota. Be specific as to size, style, colors (give several choices), hardware, and leather.
  • Check the website in your country for ideas of items you may be interested in purchasing. If you see something send a screen shot to your SA so they know what you are interested in purchasing and to inquire if they have the item.
  • Often the SA can order an item off the website or from another location but you must be present in store for the transaction to be completed.
  • Never compare your experience with your SA and your home boutique with friends, family, or what you see on social media. Everyone’s experience is different.
  • Do not show dissatisfaction or express to your SA that someone you know or saw on social media received a bag that you desire.
  • Always be polite and treat your SA with respect and gratitude.
