Dear PurseBop:

Since starting my Hermès journey, I have accumulated many orange boxes in different sizes. I do not know what to do with them and am running out of valuable space to keep storing them. Any advice?

Dear Orange Box Collector:

The glorious orange boxes which feel too beautiful to toss yet are slowly taking over valuable closet and corner space. Do you create a tower or store them inside each other to save space and keep for future possibilities? Here are some chic, practical, and creative ideas to do with your best orange boxes.

  • Keep all boxes that came with your quota and non-quota bags. Never get rid of boxes for Hermes special order bags, limited edition blue boxes, exotic bags, or high value small leather goods such as Constance, Kelly, or Bearn wallets. They are invaluable for storage, moving, or potential resale. Having the original box increases the bag’s value and desirability.
  • Part with small accessory boxes for twillies unless you have many and have space to store the unused twillies in their boxes.
  • Consider parting with small boxes which came with ready to wear, belts, home goods such as dishes, and shoe boxes.
  • Use larger boxes to store off-season sweaters, scarves, belts, or other accessories in your closet.
  • Medium boxes can be used as elegant and sturdy drawer organizers for jewelry, watch straps, belts, scarves, etc.
  • Stack small boxes for a luxe desk pyramid with a vase or candle on top, and use twilly boxes to hold pens and pencils.
  • Create a mini, chic Hermes tower by stacking 3-5 similar shaped boxes in graduating sizes on a table or closet shelf for a boutique-style look.
  • Use a flat box (scarf box) under a tray or a vase of flowers to add color and height.
  • Donate the excess boxes to a favorite resale clothing store.
  • Use empty boxes for gifts during the holidays or special occasions.

Consider creating a Hermès Tower or boutique-worthy display in your home or closet.

  • Choose 3-5 boxes in the most visually appealing sizes. If they are all similar in shape but graduate in size the pyramid will be more aesthetically pleasing.
  • Avoid stacking too high. 3-5 boxes is the best number to use.
  • Stack the boxes with intention; largest on the bottom, then graduate to the smallest on top.
  • Place inside a walk-in closet or dressing area.
  • Or a bookshelf or console table.
  • Even an entryway credenza would look chic with a few orange boxes as accents.
  • If you have space above your wardrobe, displaying larger boxes on top adds elegance and sophistication to the closet.

Good luck and enjoy the process.
