The Hermès Faubourg Express is leaving the station—and you’ll want a ticket. Part of the Fall-Winter 2024 lineup, the sleek, structured, and effortlessly chic shoulder bag has only recently begun to trickle into boutiques—and onto the arms of those in the know. Paying tribute to the iconic 24 Faubourg Saint-Honoré store, it balances Hermès heritage with a modern, elongated silhouette and refined detailing.

The Faubourg Express takes cues from travel bags, with nods to the Plume and archival Quirus models, creating a design that honors Hermès’ heritage while feeling distinctly modern. Available in small and medium sizes, the east-west bag features a zip-top closure, hardware accents on the sides, and four metal feet protecting the base. A longline shoulder strap echoes the silhouette, allowing the bag to be worn over the shoulder or carried by hand.

Crafted in Evergrain, Evercolor or Swift calfskin, the Faubourg Express combines structure with a soft, tactile finish that maintains a polished appearance. Its standout feature is the lock mechanism – a metal plate on the bag allows the zip pull to lock securely into place. The lock can then be disengaged using the key, housed in the bag’s clochette—a clever system reminiscent of Louis Vuitton’s signature S locks.

Unlike more instantly recognizable Hermès icons, the Faubourg Express favors subtlety over spectacle. Clean lines, refined hardware, and compact proportions—measuring 8.3 x 3.9 x 3.1 inches for the medium size—create a structured silhouette without feeling rigid.

Priced at $11,300 for the Evergrain iteration, the Faubourg Express is a serious investment, but it presents a quieter, sleeker alternative to the instantly recognizable Birkin or Kelly – the kind of bag that showcases Hermès craftsmanship without announcing itself.

While its name might recall the famed Faubourg Birkin, this design takes its own path – another refined tribute to Hermès’ storied 24 Faubourg Saint-Honoré flagship. Would you consider adding the Faubourg Express to your Hermès rotation?
