What’s the Strangest Thing Inside Celebrities Birkins?

What’s really inside celebrities’ Birkins?

Jane Birkin would almost certainly approve. The bag that began as a carefree, overstuffed carryall has found new life in the hands of today’s celebrities — and, judging by what’s inside, they’re using their Birkins exactly as intended.

Thanks to Vogue’s addictive “In The Bag” series, the mystique of the Hermès Birkin has been quietly unravelled — not through price tags or waitlists, but through the wonderfully mundane (and occasionally bizarre) objects tucked inside.

Alongside the everyday essentials — keys, notebooks, and the occasional lip balm, celebs’ Birkins hold a far more unexpected assortment: rocks, chilli flakes, rubber ducks, gummy bears, and even video games. Add in mystery keys, crumpled receipts, Polaroids, and half-eaten snacks, and it becomes clear that these bags are less about curation and more about character. Because beneath the polish, the Birkin has always been about real life — just a little more glamorous, and a lot more interesting.

Dua Lipa

Dua Lipa goes classically functional with a Black Togo Birkin 35 finished with gold hardware — though, in her case, the story begins before you even look inside. Adorned with an eclectic mix of charms collected from temples across Japan and India, her Birkin leans fully into the well-travelled, deeply personal spirit of Jane Birkin.

Inside, the essentials are all accounted for — a leather diary, her laptop, tangled headphones, and multiple pairs of sunglasses. But, as expected, there’s more beneath the surface. “I feel like a lot of the stuff that’s in my bag, I just collect throughout my travels,” she explains — a sentiment that quickly rings true, as she reveals Polaroids from tour, alongside a pack of Tarot cards.

A miniature pink rubber duck, dubbed her “good luck duck,” appears alongside matches, hot sauce, and a stash of chilli flakes she insists on keeping “always” close to hand. Snacks and quick fixes follow: yuzu matcha sachets, sweets, electrolytes, and on-the-go bites — small comforts for life in constant motion.

Lindsay Lohan

We’ve all seen the paparazzi shots — Lindsay Lohan with an oversized orange Hermès Birkin 40 in tow. It was her first Hermès purchase, picked up in Paris when she was just 18 or 19 after the original buyer never showed. She admits it’s a little worse for wear now — something she partly blames on herself.

Inside, it’s equal parts practical and mom-on-the-go. Sunglasses and a portable fan help her deal with the Dubai heat, while a Tide pen is there for last-minute fashion emergencies. Snacks are a given — granola bars, chocolate, pumpkin seeds, and sweetener — covering both her and her toddler.

Her son’s presence runs throughout the bag, too, with dinosaur figurines scattered inside so they’re always close to hand. And while it’s already packed, Lohan admits it’s usually even more prepared — a spare T-shirt and leggings are typically tucked away somewhere, though this time, they were nowhere to be found.

Law Roach

This stylist to the stars is no stranger to the Hermès Birkin, exclaiming “I don’t have many vices. I don’t drink a lot, I don’t do drugs—I buy Birkins.”. Known for his extensive collection, he revealed the contents of his Special Order Birkin 40 in a soft pink with matching rose-gold hardware.

Inside, Law carries not one, but two work phones—one for emails and the other solely for research. Travel essentials follow, including a passport and a mix of currencies, from dollars and euros to British pounds for tipping on the go.

Law’s beauty favorites make an appearance too: Chanel lip balm and a sparkling, bedazzled bottle of Cocoa Butter Vaseline body lotion. Then there are the snacks. Law unveils a bag of Ruffles cheddar and sour cream chips, which he insists are only to be eaten with caviar, alongside a handful of gummy bears that had found their way to the bottom of the Birkin.

Shay Mitchell

Pretty Little Liars icon Shay Mitchell keeps her Birkin 40 in a shade not far off Bleu Glacier, with just a hint more gray, paired with sleek palladium hardware. A Chrome Hearts charm dangles from the touret fastening, adding a touch of rock ’n’ roll. Unlike most Birkin 40’s that risk descending into chaos, Shay keeps everything organized in pouches — no digging into the abyss here.

First up, the essentials: phone, water bottle, hand cream, mints, and gum, all neatly stashed in their own little pouch. Then the sweet side: plenty of candy, for both her self-confessed “sugar head” tendencies and bribing her kids. A tiny pouch of mini Tabasco adds a spicy surprise. Going further, another pouch houses all the mini pharmacy staples you’d need on the go, keeping her prepared for anything. In Shay’s world, every item has its place, whether it’s cosmetics, snacks, or daily essentials—proving that not every bag is a mess inside.

Alex Consani

Model Alex Consani didn’t just stumble into her first Birkin — she practically manifested it. Years of lusting after a Birkin 30 in Black Togo leather with palladium hardware finally paid off and she secured the elusive bag. “It’s a whole experience getting a Birkin from Hermès,” she told Vogue. “It’s like the hardest thing to do, allegedly — but I got it!”

Consani knows how to fill a bag with personality. Right at the top, she revealed a wooden strategy board game, Mancala, alongside a vintage-looking America’s Next Top Model video game. A pouch of crystals, essential for manifesting her next Birkin, travels with her at all times.

Digging deeper, a 1920s vintage cardigan clip holder adorned with tiny ballet flats, purchased for a dollar at a flea market, makes an appearance. Accessories continue to take center stage: a rotating selection of sunglasses, from ’60s Italian spy shades to more current Prada and Tom Ford frames, plus a spare pair of heels for just-in-case moments. She’s practical too: a bagged collection of dental hygiene essentials — toothbrush, flossers, and a mountain of chewing gum, sits alongside her snacks, including a trusty apple.

Kate Moss

Ever wondered what an iconic supermodel carries in her bag? Kate Moss embraces her rock ’n’ roll lifestyle with a touch of glamour, carrying a vintage Hermès Toile Birkin. Inside, the bag reflects her effortless cool: alongside her makeup bag sits a Bluetooth speaker, so music can travel wherever she goes. Her Chanel O-case keeps cash and cards neatly organized, while a lighter on a keychain is always on hand.

Linda Evangelista

Sticking with the ’90s supermodels, Linda Evangelista carries her 1985 Black Birkin 35 — a gift from Hermès. When she first laid eyes on it, she recalls, “It was on a top shelf, and it had dust on it, and they advised me not to take this.” But it was the bag she adored, and she previously wore it every single day, letting it become worn and well-loved over time.

Inside, Evangelista blends practicality with self-care. The usual essentials — sunglasses, cosmetics, SPF, and a full array of nail polishes in multiple shades — sit alongside a few more unexpected items. Sea sickness bands, an Italian card game, and other small travel-friendly tools hint at a bag ready for any situation. “If you need something, I have it. Anything that may arise, I got you covered,” she laughs, perfectly summing up the resourceful spirit behind her Birkin.

Kim Kardashian

While not a Birkin, Kim Kardashian’s HAC travel bag is the blueprint for the iconic handbag: oversized, structured, and effortlessly chic. Ideal for life on the move, it carries everything Kim can’t live without — and then some. A Skims blanket and a pillow with a black silk pillowcase ensure she’s cozy on private jet flights, while a mini silver Dolce & Gabbana Sicily bag prompts Kim to joke, “In a bag like this, you’ll always find a smaller bag from some night out.”

Practicality meets indulgence inside this giant bag. A film camera for capturing memories (often developed months later), a deck of playing cards, and snacks for every eventuality — almond bars, mints, and gum — all have their place.

Alix Earle

Social media star Alix Earle took to TikTok to reveal the contents of her black Togo Birkin 40 — though not before admitting it had taken her a full 40 minutes to track down her house keys somewhere inside. What followed was an unfiltered look at what she carries day to day.

Taking a cue from Jane Birkin’s original, carefree approach to the bag, Alix’s Birkin held a mix of personal and practical items. Alongside customised trinkets featuring her dog, she revealed a pass to Radio City Music Hall, a Lego shark, and a hefty rotation of lip products.

A few more unexpected items surfaced too — including a margarita holder, a mystery key without a lock, and perhaps, the most unusual of all, an underwear liner.
