Hermès Mallette Bag

If quiet luxury is about knowing without showing, Hermès’ Mallette makes a compelling case. Introduced in Fall-Winter 2025, the sleek East-West bag is remarkably understated, keeping the House’s identity under the radar. The only hint of its provenance is its H shaped clasp, crafted in Electrum – a combination of gold and palladium that gives the otherwise restrained design a distinctive mixed-metal finish.

Inspired by the Hermès trunks of the 1930s, the Mallette reinterprets their structured aesthetic in a compact East-West silhouette. Its name, which translates to “briefcase” in French, is fitting for a design that is polished, practical and decidedly streamlined.

The Mallette’s most distinctive feature is its clasp. Stretching vertically across the lower half of the bag, the rectangular closure features an “H” rendered in a mixed-metal finish combining gold and palladium. As Hermès notes, it marks the first time this clasp has been presented in a two-tone finish on a handbag.

Beneath the hardware, the Mallette keeps things simple. Its structured body, much like the hallmark Constance, is rendered in Madame or Box calfskin, has a compact shape with a distinctly elongated East-West profile, while a single interior gusset gives the slim silhouette a little more depth.

The Mallette’s versatility comes from its adjustable shoulder strap, which features three positions for different lengths and ways of carrying. Wear it over the shoulder for a classic look, extend the strap for a longer drop, or take it crossbody when you want to go hands-free.

Inside, the Mallette is designed for essentials rather than excess. A credit-card pocket keeps smaller items organized, while the interior gusset gives the compact bag enough room for a phone, keys, and headphones. There is also a back pocket for anything you want to keep within easy reach.

While the Noir version is currently available in Box calfskin, Hermès also offers the Mallette in Madame calfskin in Étoupe, Gris Pantin, and Rouge H. The Black Box calfskin version is priced at $14,200.
