A Peek at the Chanel Bags Expected Fall 2020

No need to worry that you missed some new and exciting bag trend from Chanel coming for Fall 2020. You didn’t. The bags shown with the Fall 2020 collection are mostly more of what Chanel does well – flaps, chains, pearls, quilting. To be sure, there is some variation in size, shape and embellishment.

On some level, though, the bags seemed an afterthought. For a collection supposedly inspired by Coco Chanel’s racehorse and former designer Karl Lagerfeld’s riding boots, the bags displayed no equestrian influence. Black, white and pink dominated the runway, with a few multicolor or multicolor gem-adorned handbags. If size matters to you, there’s something for everyone from very large to very small – just not in the same design.

Micro Mini

Cute and tiny, it’s really more of a belt charm. In fact, it’s so little you’re really going have to look for it! Depending on the price tag, we guess this will be pretty (in pink) popular.

Mini Coco Handle-like

We should qualify this that . . . it looks like a mini Coco Handle. On the other hand, the bag appears a bit thicker with a thicker handle as well. In any event, it is a small size purse.

Mini Crossbody With Pearls

Rather self-explanatory, this bag appears to be a pouch on a short strap of pearls. If that is really the strap length, expect to see it on shoulders rather than crossbody. It won’t fit across many chests!

Jeweled Bags

For decades Chanel has made jewelry statements with Gripoix – or poured glass – and gold-toned pieces. This collection included more of these designs but also brought the Gripoix onto the handbags.

Large Clutch

Again, self-explanatory, although this bag is bejeweled… sort of. Pieces of gripoix, some with double ccs, are attached to this very large slouchy, pouch-like clutch.

Chained Bucket Bag

While not entirely new, this design expanded its use of the classic Chanel gold and leather chain. It enhances the draw-string bucket style bag we have seen in the past few seasons.

Large Bowling Bag

Kind of a cross between a bowling bag and a duffle, this bag is actually reminiscent of some of Chanel’s vintage models. We don’t think it will fit an actual bowling ball, but this bag is wide with a zipper top and chained straps.

Zippered Bags

Perhaps curiously, there were a lot of zipper top bags. Not quite vanity cases, the zipper on these is only on two (rather than three) sides of the bag. We’re not sure how you really access the contents.

The Rest - Mostly Flaps

As for the rest of the bags shown, they were mostly flaps. Versions of the classic and the newest Chanel 19 abound. Leather, velvet, tweed – that’s where you’ll find options.

And that’s pretty much the long and short (or big and small) of it.

Is there anything that catches your eye? Are you glad Chanel is sticking to the tried and true? Conversely, are you disappointed at the lack of new styles?
