Looking for another VCA piece to add to your collection this holiday season?
We just received word of some exciting news from the Van Cleef & Arpels Maison. The luxury house of fine jewels will release two new Alhambra stones this October.
The first revelation is a stone called Silver Obsidian or Obsidienne (in French) set in rose gold only. Silver Obsidian is a black stone but different from the current staple Onyx. Obsidian is a naturally occurring volcanic glass formed when lava extruded from a volcano cools rapidly. It is an igneous rock.We expect it to have some silver to gray grain and speckle. This will be offered in a 20 motif necklace and 5 motif bracelet only.
The second stone being introduced will be a dark blue stone set in white gold only. We understand it’s called Pietersite. This will be also be offered in only a 20 motif necklace and 5 motif bracelet. .
Doing a little google search yields these results:
“Pietersite is a trade name for a dark blue-grey breccia aggregate made up mainly of hawk’s eye and tigereye. It is a variety of chalcedony (itself a variety of quartz) with embedded fibers of amphibole minerals in varying degrees of alteration. The fibers cause a blue chatoyancy like that seen in tigereye”.

UPDATE: We are being bombarded with questions regarding news of Rock Crystal and Turquoise Alhambra re -releases. Firstly, to help clear some confusion – we must clarify to our community: both styles have been in existence and in production but in extremely few quantities. They are still going to be offered for only these rare occasions. VCA is not intending to put out more inventory of these special offerings that are being coined as “NEW”. Rock Crystal was released for the 50th anniversary of the Alhambra and a few pieces have trickled out each year. Only a very select few have been fortunate enough to be offered these Maison creations.
The VIP offerings of Rock Crystal and the Turquoise/ Diamond Alhambra collections are being released in the 20 motif necklace and 5 motif bracelet ONLY. The information circulating about the release of a Turquoise Magic pendant is incorrect.
