Chanel Night at The Museum with Anthology of Style

The Frick after dark is already a rather different proposition. Add a hundred vintage Chanel collectors, a guest channeling Karl Lagerfeld, and enough archival handbags to rival the museum’s own collection, and you have Anthology of Style’s very fashionable take on Night at the Museum.

The after-hours gala was a celebration of AOS and the community Kim Alpert has built around it. Founder of Anthology of Style, Kim has long approached fashion as a form of art, with vintage pieces at the center of the platform’s curation. Through her engaging live shows, Kim has cultivated more than just a brand – she has fostered a tight-knit network of collectors and enthusiasts she gets to know on a personal level.

For the evening, The Frick’s galleries became the backdrop, with two standout Fall-Winter 1993 Chanel pieces displayed among the museum’s collection: a multicolored Fantasy Tweed coat and a blue-green tweed coat from the same collection. It was a fitting thought after an evening spent surrounded by objects that have survived decades simply because someone belived they were worth keeping.

Naturally, an AOS gala called for a wardrobe to match, with nearly every guest arriving with a vintage Chanel bag, alongside jewelry, archival jackets, and eveningwear. Classic Flaps were plentiful, but this was far from a sea of black lambskin and caviar. Vintage Diana Flaps appeared alongside oversized CC Flaps, seasonal colors, and intricate takes on Chanel’s signature silhouettes. A statement Spring-Summer 1995 Barbie Collection Vanity Bag and 2010 Keyboard Clutch added playful archival touches, while a Pre-Fall 2021 Métiers d’Art Checkerboard drawstring style offered a contemporary Chanel aesthetic. Kim, naturally, brought a statement of her own: a glossy black patent 1992 Chanel Vanity.

Beyond Chanel’s archive, there were also glimpses of the Maison’s present, with Blazy fever clearly in full swing. Shoes were a particular focus, from his take on Coco Chanel’s classic slingbacks to the cherry-adorned heels from Métiers d’Art 2026.

With the galleries free of their usual crowds, guests could take in The Frick at their own pace, Chanel pieces weaving through rooms filled with centuries of art. For one night, The Frick become a meeting point for two kinds of collecting – art and fashion, with Chanel providing plenty to look at along the way.

I’ve been shopping with Kim and AoS since the very beginning, and I genuinely can’t imagine what my closets would look like had I never discovered her Instagram. Over the years, so many of the pieces I’ve fallen in love with and now treasure most have come from her. When I look through my closets, I see AoS pieces everywhere, each one representing a special find and, often, a wonderful memory.

Choosing a favorite purchase would be nearly impossible. If I absolutely had to narrow it down, I would say some of my most treasured pieces are the rare vintage Chanel handbags, clothing, and accessories I’ve purchased through Kim’s live shows. These pieces are more than simply beautiful purchases; they’ve become part of a collection I’ve thoughtfully built over the years and will continue to cherish for many years to come.

What truly sets Kim / AoS apart, however, is the extraordinary level of trust they have earned from me.

I never have to question the authenticity, condition, or quality of a piece. From the moment an item is presented during an Instagram Live to the moment it arrives at my doorstep, every detail is handled with an exceptional level of care and attention. One of my favorite AoS pieces is this bag I purchased in June 2024.

My mother had become very ill, but she was a big fashionista and she loved shopping on the television networks so one of my last nights in the hospital with her we watched AOS do a live on Whatnot and I purchased this bag with my mom cheering me on quietly. She passed away a few days later, but this will always be one of the most important purchases and most meaningful purchases ever. I shared my story at the time with Kim and they were so gracious and so supportive. They did some amazing things to support me during that time but again this bag is extremely special to me.
