Dear PurseBop:
What is the best way to ask your Hermès SA to place a wishlist for a quota bag? Every time I see my SA I want to bring up the subject of placing a wishlist but I am too nervous. I keep hoping she will ask me but it has not happened. Is there a right time or right way to ask for a quota bag?
Dear Can I Place a Wishlist:
You obviously have a relationship with one Sales Associate at your home boutique which is the first key step. And you have shopped with them repeatedly over the past several months. A great second step. Now is the perfect time to place a wishlist.
When you’re ready to express your wishlist to a Hermès Sales Associate (SA) for a quota bag like a Birkin or Kelly, your message should strike the right balance of polite, clear, and informed—showing that you are a serious, respectful client without sounding overly demanding.
Some suggestions are as follows:
- I would love to place a wishlist with you for my dream bag. Is that possible?
- My dream combination would be (insert style, color, leather, hardware, and size) but I trust you and if something beautiful comes in I am open to other possibilities..
- I have been thinking about a special bag and would love to place a wishlist for a quota bag with you. I understand it will take some time and am open to being flexible as well.
- How does the process work for placing a wishlist and requesting a quota bag?
- Is there a procedure in place for requesting a quota bag?
- Are there any parameters or requirements I must meet before requesting a quota bag?
- Do you have an estimate of the time it may take to be offered a quota bag?
- My dream bag would be (insert details) but I am open to other beautiful variations as well.
Summary of Tips:
Be specific but emphasize you are flexible. Indicate your top choices but note you are open to other possibilities. It is easier for the SA when they have choices.
Do not be demanding. Always be polite and say “if something similar becomes available I would love the opportunity to be offered it.”
Do not ask how much you have to spend. Let the relationship flow organically. Shop when you can and buy items in various areas in the boutique such as jewelry, shoes, rtw, home, etc. Only buy what you love and will use or give as gifts.
Good luck and happy shopping.
