What Do You Think About the Hermès HAC 40 for my Husband in Canvas vs. Leather?

Question:
Dear Pursebop, My Husband has been offered a HAC in size 40 that is canvas with leather trim. He would prefer a full leather HAC in this size, but I have told him it may be too heavy once full. Do you have advice and/or experience with HAC bags, or is it better to purchase the canvas one with leather trim? My husband loves the look of the canvas HAC, but it is not his first choice? Are the HAC bags really that hard to come by? Thanks for all of your advice, a Hermes loving crazymam!

Dear Seeker of Advice on HAC:

As with all bags from Hermes, a HAC in a size 40 is not  commonly seen in most boutiques. It is a large bag that is great for travel and has many uses. However, it is popular with a certain kind of Hermès client. It is true that a leather HAC, when full, would likely be heavier than a canvas HAC filled with the same items.

It is always a difficult choice to choose a bag that is on your wishlist but may not have the exact specifications you requested.  Often a discussion with your SA will answer your concerns and questions and help you make the right decision. Your SA will know how often the HAC has been seen in their location and whether a leather HAC is something you should wait for. Your SA wants you and your husband to be happy with your choice. They do not make any commission from selling quota bags. Therefore, they are likely to give you the best information available to them at the time.

If your husband loves the canvas HAC, and does not want to wait for a leather one, he should get that bag and enjoy using it. On the other hand, if he is set on getting a leather HAC then he would be wise to wait until one arrives that meets his specifications. It is possible that he will be happy with either bag.

We hope this helps your decision-making process. Good luck.
