Gucci Spring 2019 Includes Disneyland and Dollywood

Gucci, Mickey Mouse and Dolly Parton.  You probably don’t think of them together.  Perhaps they seem unlikely companions at a fashion event, but there they were – at Gucci’s Spring 2019 fashion show, held at the Théâtre Le Palace in Paris. On the other hand, they fit Gucci designer Alessandro Michelle’s “concept of intermixing beautiful things, between high and low culture.”

Okay . . . another of the Mickey bag.  It’s fascinating actually,  though perhaps reminiscent of a toddler’s homage to the Big Mouse. Alternatively, it resembles a shrunken head of the costumed character roaming the grounds of Disney. Is it kitschy, gimmicky or cute? Or all three? Regardless, we suspect that it will help Gucci remain at the top of the social media buzz ladder.

Once you get over these pop culture icons, the bags are somewhat true to form. Ophidia totes and lion head bags continue to reign along with ladylike top handles. Hold onto your Gucci stripes as they’re still in too. Likewise, there’s plenty of structure and ladylike vibes – round and rectangle, leather and exotic.

Also noteworthy, and appearing more than once, were strawberry prints and fluffy bags with bamboo handles.

Lastly, this bodywide tapestry backpack caught the eye of many fashionistas. It will be interesting to see the first to pull it off (or put it on).

Will Mickey’s head be in your hand next Spring? Conversely, perhaps you’ll be sticking to the more old-school styles.  Let us know.
