Hermès’ New Ancrage Bag Makes a Subtle Splash

When we think of Hermès’ men’s bags, the mind often drifts to the HAC or the Garden Party Voyage—bags with vast silhouettes and commanding presence. But Hermès’ latest addition quietly flips that script. Meet the Ancrage: a bag that embodies minimalist elegance while staying effortlessly practical. Unlike flashier Hermès designs, the Ancrage whispers luxury rather than shouts it.

Introduced as part of Hermès’ Spring-Summer 2025 men’s lineup, the Ancrage draws inspiration from nautical heritage. Its name—“Ancrage,” or “anchoring”—pays homage to the Maison’s emblematic Chaine d’Ancre motif, used here on a men’s bag for the first time. The motif appears on a handful of women’s bags, including the In-the-Loop, as well as on Hermès’ jewelry, small leather goods, and belts. On the Ancrage, the Chaine d’Ancre functions as a palladium-plated buckle for the adjustable shoulder strap, highlighting the leather and nodding to the bag’s nautical inspiration.

Crafted from Togo calfskin, the Ancrage’s silhouette is reminiscent of an oversized Evelyne, with clean lines, a subtly elongated profile, and a slightly curved bottom. The open top closes with a leather tab, and the unlined interior keeps the bag lightweight while emphasizing its minimalist, functional design. Its luxurious leather is paired with a pared-back, casual webbing shoulder strap, allowing the Anchorage to be worn over the shoulder or across the body.

Measuring 11 x 15 x 3 inches, the Ancrage is surprisingly accommodating. It comfortably fits a laptop, documents, or a water bottle, while an interior back pocket keeps smaller essentials such as a phone or wallet neatly tucked away. The slim profile ensures the bag remains sleek. Even when fully packed, it sits comfortably across the body or over the shoulder without feeling bulky.

Currently available exclusively in noir, the Ancrage emphasizes timeless simplicity, ensuring it pairs seamlessly with any wardrobe. The Ancrage is priced at $6,300, placing it below the likes of the HAC in the Maison’s lineup. A quietly refined option, the Ancrage balances clean design, daily functionality, and a touch of nautical flair.
