The final bow of Paris fashion week was Louis Vuitton’s, whose collection for Fall 2018 combined the simplicity of classic French elegance with a futuristic vibe. Set in the Lefuel inner courtyard of the Louvre Museum, guests entered through the modern I.M. Pei glass pyramid to a space used for horses in the 1800s.
For the Fall 2018 women’s collection show, the courtyard was re-imagined as the flight deck of a spaceship or space shuttle.

The bags we saw followed this theme. Ladylike top handle frame and flap purses showed in intergalactic materials – icy and silvery colors with tech-y designs.

Petit malle, twist and Alma bags made their way down the runway as well, but they were hardly the only designs.

Louis Vuitton also featured an assortment of shapes and sizes: large totes, flat envelopes, round box bags, cylindrical bags and clutches.

Classic LV motifs like the monogram and logo were present but sparse in the show, though we expect the full Fall 2018 collection to have more.

The more adventurous reader might prefer a Louis Vuitton soda can though we are not quite sure where and what that fits in either Louis Vuitton or your personal collection.

To the extent designer Nicolas Ghesquiere was referencing time travel, it’s interesting that the collection was quite ladylike and not necessarily forward-looking. Combined with the fact that the new Louis Vuitton brand ambassador is Emma Stone – a face of the #timesup movement – maybe the message is mixed.
Is this collection in your future? Let us know.
