Chanel arrived in Biarritz on Tuesday, April 28, where a cloudy, wind-swept sky sets the tone along the Basque coast. The Maison staged its Cruise 2026/27 show at the Casino Municipal, just moments from the shoreline where Gabrielle Chanel first established her vision outside Paris.

It was here, in the summer of 1915, that Coco opened her first couture House at the Villa de Larralde on Rue Gardères — a space that blended an atelier, boutique, and private apartment, ultimately inspiring her iconic address on Rue Cambon. While Paris, Deauville, and Monte Carlo shaped Coco Chanel’s beginnings as a milliner, it was the Basque coast that marked a turning point, where her early collections took form and the foundations of the iconic Chanel silhouette emerged. Today, Matthieu Blazy revisits the coastline, paying tribute to where it all began and bringing Chanel’s past into the present by the sea.

Blazy centers his collection around the CC logo. Chanel tweed returns as does denim for iconic suiting. A subtle coastal thread runs throughout, with nautical stripes and abstract, marine-inspired motifs bringing a softer, seasonal dimension. 

And then there are the bags — and there are a lot of them. Nearly every model carried a bag, with some looks styled with two. Familiar shapes return in new fabrications, including Blazy’s now-signature Maxi Flap Bag and Small Shopping Bag from his Spring-Summer 2026 debut, joined by pieces from the upcoming Coco Beach 2026 lineup. Minaudières punctuate the offering, adding a more decorative, evening edge.

Let’s take a closer look at the standout styles from Chanel’s Cruise 2026/27 collection.

Blazy continues to focus on the Maxi Flap, now reimagined in raffia and denim.

First up, the Maxi Flap was reimagined in tightly woven raffia, retaining its interwoven leather-and-chain strap and CC turn-lock closure. The style appeared in both a dark beige and a soft pink iteration.

For a more sea-worthy version, a black raffia design introduced an abstract, fish-inspired motif across the surface, complete with scattered bubble-like detailing to give the classic silhouette an underwater twist.

Denim was the Maxi fabric of choice highlighted by House ambassador A$AP Rocky, who sported the pink sunbleached version to the show. With burgundy leather accents, the bag featured subtle distressing and small signs of wear for a lived-in feel, along with a distinctive fringe-like edge. Secured with a CC turn-lock set on a leather tab, the bag also retained its interwoven leather-and-chain strap.

On the runway the bag appeared in dark beige with brown detailing, and in a striped denim with matching suit.

Adding a seasonal twist to the Flap bag lineup, a new suede edition was introduced. Rendered in a soft powder blue and finished with Blazy’s signature flat quilting, the design featured four eyelets for its adjustable interwoven leather-and-chain shoulder strap. The statement-maker on this bag is the oversized CC turn-lock. It appears to be a rotating opening mechanism rather than the traditional center turn-lock, echoing the fastening seen on the Trapezoid Flap Bag from the Fall-Winter 2026 collection.

A single-flap design with a serious statement was rendered in bright yellow raffia. Echoing the textured language seen on the 26S striped Maxi Flap, the style kept things tonal, allowing the texture to take centre stage.

The Mini Flap Bag brings the heat, styled alongside a slouchy printed Hobo Bag. Crafted in an all-over fringe effect, the design was elevated with a punchy red beaded chilli motif across its surface.

For a breezier alternative, another Mini was rendered in a red fishnet-inspired crochet. Airy and translucent, the design featured a black inner pouch to keep essentials secure.

It wouldn’t be a Chanel collection without the classics. Though not dominant in this collection, the Classic Flap Handbag made an appearance, this time stepping  away from iconic quilted leather in favor of something more statement-led. Rendered in a light pink silk satin, the design depicted an underwater scene, complete with delicately beaded fish and marine plant motifs across its entire surface.

Playing with texture and adornment, the Classic Flap takes on an almost fish-scale effect rendered across an ombré orange finish. The textural treatment extends across the entire surface, punctuated by scattered shell-shaped embellishments finished with faux pearls.

Who needs So Black when you can have So Blue? Rendered in a cobalt shade, the Small Classic Flap Bag arrives with tonal hardware for a fully monochrome finish.

Two of Blazy’s most sought-after styles from the 26S drop returned in fresh fabrications and new proportions. First up, the Large Shopping Bag, reimagined with a raffia body, and finished with black leather handles, flap, and trim, lent a more seasonal feel. For a sleeker alternative, the style was also presented in faux-croc in chocolate brown.

Another of Blazy’s debut styles followed suit, with the Executive Tote reworked in faux crocodile and with a nautical vibe. Wavy horizontal stripes in blue and white ran across the entire bag — including the top handles — creating a graphic contrast to its otherwise fairly structured, ladylike silhouette.

The Shopping Bag that’s about to hit boutiques for Coco Beach 2026, had a runway moment at the Cruise show. And for this bag, bigger is better. The attention-grabbing iteration was so oversized that it nearly grazed the models’ shins. Woven in boldly striped raffia and finished with a CC appliqué leather logo, it had the kind of generous proportions that swallow beach essentials whole – towels, sunscreen, a change of clothes, and whatever else a day by the water demands. Smaller scaled versions also walked the runway, worn by hand and over the shoulder with the same effortless, beach-bound ease – but it was the oversized silhouette that truly owned the moment. 

Straying away from the stripes, another roomy Shopping Bag places the CC logo firmly at the forefront. The design is defined by an oversized appliqué CC in lambskin leather across the front. A single leather shoulder strap extends seamlessly from the base of the bag, allowing it to be worn on the shoulder. The style was showcased in beige and black, as well as a So Black look. 

On the Mini end of the Shopping Bag spectrum, the Chanel Kelly, otherwise known as Mini Shopping Bag, re-appeared in its raffia-effect fringe design, first seen in the 26S lineup.

The style also appeared at the Presentation rendered in black raffia with beaded chilli adornments.

Adding a travel-ready spirit to the lineup, a handful of Bowling Bags hit the runway. Showcased in both plain leather and suede iterations, the style moves away from oversized CC motifs in favour of a smaller emblem at the front. The bags were carried by interwoven leather-and-chain top handles, while D-rings also allowed for a detachable shoulder strap. Finished with a secure two-way zip closure and four protective feet at the base, the design was presented in three sizes, ranging from petite to maxi, in a palette of black, burgundy, and beige.

This bag grouping introduces a Bucket Bag style that highlights the Chanel logo. With a circular base and CC emblems on the front and strap, a single elongated leather strap accommodates shoulder wear, though it was handheld on the runway. Shown in both a baby blue flat quilted leather and a tightly woven khaki raffia, there are two sizes of this style.

For a more textural take, a Bucket Bag appeared in an all-over fringe finish, arranged in a chevron pattern that created serious movement on the runway. Finished with a CC-stitched base, the design featured leather-interwoven chain top handles framed with oversized CC eyelets.

A hobo style first debuted in the Fall-Winter 2026 collection returned to the runway. Defined by its curved silhouette, it features oversized CC emblems that act as the only hardware, wrapping subtly around the sides of the form. A slim adjustable shoulder strap allows it to be carried by hand or worn on the shoulder. Reworked in faux crocodile, the design appeared in a vibrant blue alongside a deep chocolate brown – each with gold-tone hardware.

Another style took a more pared-back approach. Rendered in smooth, unquilted burgundy leather, the design includes a small CC motif at the front, while an interwoven leather-and-chain strap adds versatility as well as an additional dose of hardware.

The same style also appeared at the Presentation, with a statement CC to the front.

Adding an extra dose of texture to the Cruise lineup, the new Top Handle Bags introduce a sculptural, crescent-shaped silhouette with an integrated handle, shown in two distinct iterations. The first was crafted in a tightly woven raffia with an almost beige-and-black houndstooth effect, secured with a tab and CC turn-lock closure.

Echoing the same curved silhouette, the second version was rendered in structured wicker, lined with leather, and finished with a CC-adorned drawstring closure that cinched the interior. Both styles were carried by hand, despite having chain shoulder straps. 

Originally debuted in Métiers d’Art 2026, Blazy’s vintage-inspired pouch-style purse returns in a new execution. Taking cues from the nautical fabrication seen on the Executive Tote, the east–west shoulder bag is reworked in faux crocodile with bold blue and white stripes. Finished with its defining CC emblem, which serves as the opening clasp at the top frame, the bag was carried by hand on the runway using its adjustable longline straps.

Channeling a similar mood, but without the fanfare, a beige suede quilted east–west bag made an appearance. Finished with elongated leather shoulder straps, the design forgoes the kiss-lock closure in favour of a zip-top fastening, with a CC emblem placed on the body.

Paired alongside the mini version of the new Bowling Bag was an equally petite new Vanity Bag. Rendered in grained white calfskin with a hard-sided luggage-look, a tonal appliqué CC emblem graces the front of the bag. Finished with subtle black piping, the bag was carried by its tiny top handle.

A larger Vanity also hit the runway. Presented in a glossy black faux croc, this roomy piece is secured with a CC turn-lock.

Echoing the Evening Bag from Chanel’s Cruise 2025/26 collection, this statement mini was rendered in a combination of what appears to be green glass beads and crystal embellishment, with chains cascading down the body of the bag. Secured with a gold-tone CC turn-lock, the design featured a double chain shoulder strap extending from the sides of the bag. The same design was also presented in black with cascading chilli adornments.

Blazy’s nautical theme carries through to his Minaudières designs, introducing a sea-shell inspired piece for evening. Rendered in a  mother-of-pearl finish, the hard shell was embellished with gold-tone aquatic motifs. The design is finished with a kiss-lock closure and topped with a CC emblem.

A subtly curved Minaudières with a textured surface in red and white echoes that of coral. 

For a more playful, maritime reference, another Minaudière appeared to take cues from a traditional fishing float. Rendered in glossy red acrylic with a softly rounded, almost buoy-like form, the was finished with a long black tassel detail. 

Classic Clutches took a back seat to more statement-led offerings. First up, however, a quilted suede design trimmed in brown leather, finished with a tab detail and CC emblem, bringing a distinct vintage-inspired feel.

Perhaps the most abstract piece on the runway blurred the line between accessory and art. At first glance, it read more as an object than a bag, until closer inspection revealed a bow-adorned clutch. Crafted from what appears to be a heavy silk, the oversized bow is finished with a discreet CC emblem and attached to a clutch in the same fabric. The model’s hand slipped behind the bow to carry the bag, while its trailing ends draped across the floor. Presented in dark beige and black, the design leaned into theatricality — though arguably edging into trip-hazard territory.
