The Chic Handbag Trend that Even Chanel & Hermès Can’t Resist

Bowling bags are big business right now, but not in their traditional form. Classically defined by a semi-structured, curved silhouette with generous proportions and short top handles, the bowling bag was designed to carry weight – bowling balls included. This season, designers are slimming things down. The one-roomy shape is being cropped and elongated into sleek east–west profiles, paired with exaggerated top handles that often stretch longer than the body of the bag. The result feels sharper, lighter, and more contemporary – less functional carryall, more statement accessory.

Alaïa’s Le Teckel may have pioneered the look in 2024, but with newcomers like the Goyard Bonbonnière and Chanel’s Small Bowling Bag  from the Spring-Summer 2026 Pre-Collection, the trend is clearly far from over — sleek, wearable, and instantly covetable.

Here are seven sleek styles to covet this season.

Goyard - Bonbonnière

Goyard’s newest arrival, the Bonbonnière Baguette Bag, marks a refreshing departure for the Maison. Neither a soft tote nor a hard-sided travel piece, this sleek east–west silhouette introduces a structured, barrel-like shape that feels distinctly modern while remaining rooted in Goyard’s heritage. Inspired by the vintage Saint-Martin bag, the design features a Goyardine canvas body paired with Chevroches calfskin, softly rounded elongated top handles, and subtle embossed Goyard logos at each end.

Available in all 11 of Goyard’s signature shades, from classic Black to Green, Burgundy, and Yellow, the Bonbonnière retails for $3,040 and is already shaping up to be one of the Maison’s most in-demand releases.

Chanel - Small Bowling Bag

One of the most talked-about Chanel bags right now, the Small Bowling Bag is part of Matthieu Blazy’s Spring-Summer 2026 Pre-Collection. While fans have nicknamed this lineup the “Preppy Coco” or the “Chanel 26,” Chanel itself keeps the naming, much like the design, sleek and fuss-free. Not to be confused with the new Flap Bag, the Small Bowling Bag is crafted from grained shiny calfskin and features a cylindrical east–west silhouette with elongated top handles which compliment its non-quilted profile.

Offered in Evergrain, Evercolor, or Swift calfskin, the Faubourg Express’ defining detail is the locking zip mechanism, which secures into a metal plate on the body of the bag and is released via a key housed in the clochette. Chanel – Clutch with Leather Strap

If the cylindrical bowling silhouette isn’t to your taste, Chanel’s new Clutch with Leather Strap offers a sleek, modern alternative within the Spring–Summer 2026 lineup. First spotted off-runway on Jennie of BLACKPINK and Lily-Rose Depp, the compact flap design reimagines Chanel’s iconic codes through a pared-back lens. Crafted from grained shiny calfskin, it forgoes quilting in favour of a smooth, minimalist finish, while elongated leather shoulder straps replace the traditional chain for effortless, under-the-arm wear.
