@Karenzpurses personal journey
We may need a new luxury term to describe what is happening right now at Chanel. No matter how hard we try to resist it, ignore it, dismiss it, or convince ourselves we are above the hype, eventually we cave. The phenomenon has become so widespread that it deserves a name.
We call it being “Blazified.” (@stezzzz2.0)

At first, there was skepticism. Plenty of it. Alongside the excitement surrounding Mathieu Blazy’s arrival at Chanel came criticism, doubt, and endless debate. Social media was divided. Longtime Chanel lovers questioned the direction. Others declared themselves instant fans.
Then something happened.
Collection after collection arrived, and each seemed stronger than the last. The critics softened. The skeptics became curious. The curious became buyers. Suddenly, ready-to-wear was disappearing from boutiques. Shoes were selling through. New handbags were commanding waitlists. Anything remotely connected to the Blazy era seemed to develop an immediate following.

At PurseBop, we reported. We watched. We analyzed. We debated.
And eventually… We shopped.
The first crack in our resistance appeared when PurseBop revealed her gorgeous Burgundy 26S Small Shopping Bag. Given her love affair with the Shoulder Birkin—arguably one of her most-carried bags in recent years—the attraction was obvious. The silhouette felt familiar yet fresh, practical yet undeniably chic. In a color absent from her collection.

Did I Just Become "Blazified?"
Then came my turn. The bag that simply refused to leave the conversation, the Suede Maxi Flap would not go away.
Introduced in both small (32cm) and medium (38cm) sizes as part of the 26S collection, it quickly became the bag everyone seemed to be talking about. Every boutique visit somehow led back to it. Every social media scroll revealed another sighting. Before long, we started spotting it in the wild, carried by stylish women who had somehow managed to secure one.
To me, Blazy’s Maxi Flap feels less more like a reinvention. Like a return to the qualities that made Chanel iconic in the first place. It feels effortless rather than precious, moves with the body, and exudes the kind of confidence that comes from knowing exactly who you are – without needing anyone else’s approval.

I tried to ignore the noise.
I told myself it was simply the latest Chanel obsession. Another seasonal “must-have” that would disappear as quickly as it arrived.
It didn’t.
Instead, the fascination continued to grow.
The more I watched Mathieu Blazy’s vision unfold, the more I realized something important. Despite early fears from some corners of the luxury community, he was never trying to turn Chanel into Bottega Veneta. If anything, he appears deeply committed to Chanel’s heritage, drawing inspiration from the house’s rich history while thoughtfully bringing it into a new era.

Collection by collection, the strategy is becoming clearer. The silhouettes feel familiar yet modern. The details reference the past while remaining relevant for today’s collector. There is a long game at work here, and Blazy seems determined to execute it one collection at a time.
Perhaps that realization resonated so strongly because Chanel was my first luxury love. Long before Hermès entered the picture, Chanel was where my collecting journey began. It was the brand that sparked my passion.

Our community member @stellaw2021 captured the sentiment perfectly:
“I began to see how deeply he respects the essence of Chanel. The more I see, the more I understand what he is trying to do. And the truth is, I have found myself diving headfirst into the excitement along with everyone else.”
I could not agree more.

I Got The Text!
As the 26A Métiers d’Art collection arrived, so did additional colors of the Maxi suede flap bag. The coveted light tan shade remained, joined by several rich brown variations that only intensified the demand.
My SA knew exactly which one I wanted.
The original beige suede.
For weeks, the answer was the same.
“None are available.”

Then, at precisely 4:00 p.m. on Metiers d’Art launch day, my phone lit up.

That text exchange put everything into perspective. It captured the reality of luxury shopping today.
At Chanel, particularly for the most coveted pieces, the competition begins long before the collection officially arrives. If you have not expressed interest early, or secured a reservation in advance, there is a very real chance you may miss out altogether.
Which is why a great Sales Associate is worth their weight in gold.
While many collectors focus on inventory, timing, and luck. The truth is, having an SA who genuinely advocates for you can make all the difference. The best ones know what you love, keep you in mind, and when an opportunity appears, they act quickly.
According to my SA, the bag appeared almost out of nowhere in the stockroom. The moment she spotted it, she grabbed it. Within seconds, other SAs noticed.
“Where did you get that?”
“I need that bag.”
“Can I have that bag?”
A frenzy quickly followed.
But she wasn’t letting go.
She held on tight, stood her ground, and somehow emerged victorious.
In that moment, my Chanel SA officially achieved rock star status.
After years of feeling largely uninspired by Chanel’s handbag offerings, I had finally found a bag that genuinely excited me again.
The prize:
A Small Suede Maxi Flap.

While considerably larger than my beloved pink Medium Classic Flap, the Suede Maxi Flap felt like something entirely different. Fresh but unexpected. Relaxed, modern, while still classic.
And perhaps the biggest surprise of all?
It wasn’t pink.
Anyone familiar with my collection understands just how significant that statement is.

This soft beige suede beauty represents a complete departure from my usual comfort zone. It is not a mini bag. It is not Hermès. And it is definitely not pink.
Yet somehow, it feels exactly right.

My luxury collecting journey began with Chanel more than two decades ago. Long before the quota bag chase, before the endless color charts and leather discussions, there was Chanel. It was my first handbag love. The brand that sparked the passion and started the collection.
There is something comforting about returning to where it all began.
What makes the Suede Maxi Flap so compelling is that it feels familiar while simultaneously feeling new. To me, it is the Classic Flap viewed through a contemporary lens. The quilting is flatter, the structure is softer, and the supple suede allows the silhouette to drape effortlessly, creating a more relaxed aesthetic while preserving the iconic CC turnlock and leather-woven chain straps that make it unmistakably Chanel.
It honors the past without feeling trapped by it.
Which is perhaps the best way to describe what Mathieu Blazy appears to be doing at Chanel as a whole.

So perhaps the question is no longer whether the Blazy effect is real.
The question is:
Have you been Blazified yet?
