Some Hermès bags borrow subtle cues from the equestrian world, but the new Double Longe practically trots straight out of the stable.
Translating to “double leash”, the bag takes its name from a horse-training technique that uses two long lines to guide a horse from the ground. First seen on the Fall-Winter 2025 runway and only now trickling into boutiques, it’s one of the House’s most overt equestrian-inspired designs in recent years.

The inspiration extends beyond the name. According to Hermès, the Double Longe takes its cues from horses’ grooming bags, reimagining a practical stable-side accessory as an everyday handbag. The result is a relaxed bucket-style silhouette rendered in a combination of Togo and Swift calfskin for a flexible and lightweight design.

At first glance, the Double Longe may invite comparisons to the Picotin. Both feature open-top constructions, unlined interiors, and softly structured bucket bag silhouettes. Yet, the styles differ in their hardware details and styling options.
Most notably, an oversized snap hook anchors the shoulder strap, directly referencing the hardware found on horse lead ropes. An XL ring and leather-wrapped equestrian-style tourniquet further reinforce the bag’s riding-inspired origins, transforming stable equipment into decorative design details. Together, these elements form an adjustable strap system that defines the bag’s dual-carry functionality, allowing it to be worn at two different lengths — either sitting neatly beneath the shoulder or hanging lower against the body.

Measuring approximately 8.5 x 9.1 x 5.5 inches , the Double Longe occupies a practical middle ground. Compact enough for daily use yet roomy enough for essentials – with one main compartment that secures with a snap closure.

Currently available in a combination of Togo and Swift calfskin, the Double Longe has arrived on the Hermès France website in Gold with palladium-plated hardware. At the Fall-Winter 2025 Objects Presentation, the style was also showcased in Black, Rouge H, and a deep brown similar to Bai Brun, each finished with gold-tone hardware. Priced at €4,900 in Europe, the Double Longe sits within a relatively accessible tier of Hermès’ handbag lineup.

So is the Double Longe just passing through the stables — or trotting towards icon status?
