The Evelyne bag has long been considered one of the most reliable workhorse bags from Hermès. Designed in 1978 by Evelyne Bertrand, the Evelyne has quietly evolved over decades, but no iteration has stirred quite as much conversation as the introduction of the Evelyne 23.

Originally designed for equestrian use (yes, that iconic “H” was meant for horse tools), the Evelyne eventually trotted its way into the leather department and into our closets. Over time, it became the effortlessly chic staple we know today. Along the way, Hermès flirted with variations like the sportier Neo and the more structured Sellier version. But, it is still the classic relaxed silhouette that continues to win our hearts.

The Evolution of Sizes
The Hermès Evelyne came in multiple sizes: the 29 (PM), 33 (GM), and 40 (TGM). The 29 reigned supreme as the smallest practical option until the 16 (TPM) was introduced. Naturally, the mini bag had its moment (as they always do), and while undeniably adorable, it came with a glaring flaw: a very LONG non-adjustable strap. Yes, the smallest Evelyne version has the longest strap.

Charming? Yes. Practical? Debatable. What it did do was leave a noticeable gap between itself and the size 29.
Then came May 2025 and the Evelyne 23 was introduced. Finally, a size that feels intentional, practical, and perfect.

Evelyne 16 (TPM)
The Tiny Temptation at 16 x 18 x 5 cm
This is your “less is more” moment with emphasis on less. Think of it as the Evelyne’s answer to the mini phenomenon: very cute, mildly impractical, and somehow still a must have.

Its biggest flaw is the non-adjustable and unnecessarily long strap. Luckily, this can be fixed with a quick swap strap. Where it truly earns its place? It’s stadium-approved! Concerts, games, anything with a clear bag policy, this is your MVP bag. Add a top handle or a chic strap, and it even works as an evening bag (arguably the only Evelyne that can). A chunky short strap is my personal favorite way to give it that top-handle moment.

What fits:
A small wallet (ie. Calvi Duo), lipstick, keys, a portable charger and just enough room for one mint.

Evelyne 23
The One That Got It Right at 23 x 24 x 7 cm
I’ll say it again: this is the best and most perfect Evelyne size. The 23 size is what happens when form and function finally agree.

Too large for stadiums? Yes. But otherwise, nearly flawless. It transitions seamlessly from casual errands to a polished daytime look, travels beautifully, and comes with an adjustable strap. Lightweight, refined, and versatile, it also pairs effortlessly with a twilly for a more stylish shoulder bag moment. This is the bag you reach for without thinking, and isn’t that the point of the Evelyne?

What fits:
A wallet (small to medium), a makeup pouch, sunglasses, keys, portable charger and about 100 mints.

Evelyne 29 (PM)
The Original It Girl at 29 x 30 x 8 cm
For years, this was THE Evelyne to get. And while it still holds its own, perspective changes things.

On some frames, it can feel slightly overpowering. Because I’m only 5’1”, this bag is more of a carry-all piece than an effortless chic moment. It excels in casual settings and leans heavily into that sporty aesthetic. Think travel days, winter outings, or anywhere you need a little extra space. Going on a winter vacation? This bag is perfect. It fits your gloves, hats, hand warmers, a scarf, and more.
As for the strap, it is the widest and heaviest of the three, which adds to its more robust feel.

What fits:
Everything. Wallet, makeup, sunglasses (and readers), water bottle, scarf, gloves, snacks and approximately 1,000 mints, but who’s counting.

Final Thoughts
At 5’1”, proportions matter and the difference between these three is not subtle. While each size serves its purpose, owning all three is not really a necessity.
If I had to choose just one? The answer is easy: the 23. No hesitation. This is simply the one that makes the most sense with its perfect size, making it the most versatile of the three.
Now the real question: are you adding the 23 to your collection, or are you still loyal to your original favorite?
