Chanel Releases 68 Bags for Fall/Winter 2024 – Here are the New Bags

As Paris Fashion Week gracefully concludes its final act, Chanel unveiled its Fall-Winter 2024 Ready-to-Wear collection—an intimate ode to the seaside elegance of Deauville. On Tuesday, March 5th, Chanel returned to the Grand Palais Éphémère, to showcase its love letter to the legacy of the iconic fashion house and to Gabrielle Chanel herself. In the lead-up to the show, Chanel described the essence of the collection, expressing:

“The Chanel Fall-Winter 2024/25 Ready-to-Wear collection is a tribute to Deauville, a palace that inspired Gabrielle Chanel to invent a look. The long romantic silhouettes imagined by Virginie Viard borrow their bright or pastel tones from the changing colors of the Deauville sky, to which are added the browns and gold of the lamé. An allusion to the links between the Planches de Deauville, the 7th art and Chanel, references to cinema punctuate the prints in the collection.”

Leading up to the Fall-Winter 2024 reveal, Chanel teased the collection through a series of photographs and films captured by Inez & Vinoodh. On show day, the runway opened with a short film featuring Penélope Cruz, Brad Pitt, and Rianne Van Rompaey, alongside the iconic Chanel handbag placed at the center of a table. Drawing inspiration from the poignant scene in the 1966 movie ‘Un Homme et Une Femme’ by Claude Lelouch, the film added a touch of nostalgia, perfectly aligning with Chanel’s Fall-Winter 2024 aesthetic.

And, with the lens focused on the Chanel Classic Flap, perhaps that provided a hint about the collection of handbags for Fall/Winter 2024. . .

Beyond the clothing and handbags, however, the collection pays homage to Coco Chanel’s lesser-known beginnings. Her business began as a millinery – a shop for hats. Models showcased oversized sun hats and tweed flat caps adorned with bold jewelry pieces.

With the hats were ensembles of effortless layering, featuring maxi-length coats that create a sleek silhouette, either cinched at the waist with belts or worn open. Of course, classic Chanel tweed was a prominent feature, alongside 80s-inspired knitwear with two-tone colorways. Shearling and leather pieces, in neutral tones, added depth to the diverse textures on display.

The collection boasts diverse styles, with the color palette shifting dramatically –  transitioning from dominant gray tones to winter whites, soft creams, black and white, and expanding to bright and pastel tones. Evoking the spirit of Deauville, the palette transforms into beach-inspired natural tones. This introduces laid-back casual vibes, with oversized cardigans, cozy knitwear, and chic coated denim, infusing a contemporary twist into Chanel’s timeless legacy.

Chanel Fall-Winter 2024 Handbags

As models confidently graced the runway, each look included a distinctive handbag. That’s 68 handbags if you’re counting. And it became evident that Classic Flap bags take center stage in this season’s lineup. Chanel’s iconic flap reigns supreme in a spectrum of colorways and fabrics, ranging from the mini to the classic medium. Whether effortlessly worn on the shoulder, hand-held, or styled with the chain tucked inside as a top handle, this collection serves as a celebration of the enduring timelessness of the Classic Flap, a testament to its everlasting appeal.

Amidst the abundance of Classic Flap bags, flat wristlet clutch bags in both mini and larger sizes introduced an effortless vibe on the runway. In a surprising twist, the Deauville made a singular appearance, showcased in a fresh shearling iteration, standing out as the largest bag in the lineup.

Classic Flap

It comes as no surprise that the Classic Flap rightfully takes center stage in this Chanel show, having already played a prominent role in the pre-show short film. The collection features a spectrum of mainly medium-sized flap bags, displaying a Classic Flap rainbow. Shown in shades ranging from peachy orange tones, rich mustard yellow, deep reds, pastel blue, navy, and chocolate brown, to a slew of pink hues. All appear to be crafted in supple lambskin leather, perhaps a nod to Chanel’s ‘original’ leather of choice.

While lambskin Classic Flaps dominate the entire handbag lineup, fabric options also make an appearance. The collection includes several tweed options, such as chocolate brown, orange, and pink houndstooth tweed.

Mini Flap Bags

Chanel expands its mini flap collection again, presenting a new twist – a Mini Flap handbag in subtly-grained leather. Unlike the traditional quilted style, this iteration is plain leather and finished with aged gold-tone hardware and a delicate CC charm detailing on the shoulder strap. It debuted in black and pastel blue on the runway.

This non-quilted style also comes in deep red and black in a small size, as well as an east-west silhouette in black.

For those who prefer the classic Chanel quilting, the collection also offers a Mini Flap handbag in the rectangular silhouette. It was seen in a variety of pastel shades and crafted from lambskin leather with light-gold hardware. If Chanel tweed aligns more with your style, choices include a pale pink tweed version and a darker-toned tweed with metallic detailing. Patent enthusiasts have a glossy black mini option to add to their collection.

Diamanté Details

For a touch of glitz and glamour, Chanel introduces a mini flap bag resembling the standard rectangular mini but reimagined in beige or black lambskin and diamanté construction. This design creates an open-weave appearance on the bag’s main body. To add a further dose of tiny bag energy, a black version is presented in an even more miniature square silhouette.

Other Flap Bags…

Although the Classic Flap took center stage for Fall-Winter 2024, there were other variations as well. A slightly less structured flap design, featuring black lambskin and aged gold-tone hardware, captured attention. While retaining a classic aesthetic, this design showcased a shorter chain compared to the standard flap bag, embellished with charming details. The seasonal iteration exudes vintage-inspired charm.

There’s another more structured style too, complete with edge stitching. This new style is showcased in small and large, in navy blue, coral pink, and a deep red-tone brown, both with gold hardware.

Shearling

This season, shearling flap bags make a statement, presenting two cozy options for fall. The Flap bag is reimagined in fuzzy shearling, available in both mini and small sizes. Featuring an oversized quilting design, these bags are crafted from tan lambskin leather, complemented by shearling flap detailing and trim.

Deauville

Completing the shearling lineup is completed the Chanel Deauville. Although it appears only once in this Deauville-inspired collection, this season’s shearling makeover radiates a luxurious winter charm. Primarily crafted in tan leather, the Deauville is adorned with natural-colored shearling trim. Paired with a matching leather and shearling coat on the runway, this casual tote exudes an ultra-luxe appeal.

Shoulder Multi-Pocket Bag

Introducing a novel rectangular-shaped bag, this fresh addition shines in deep red, black, and yellow leather. Reminiscent of the Chanel Cambon Multipocket bag from the early 2000s, albeit smaller, the bag incorporates pouch pockets on the sides and each end. This new design boasts a leather interwoven chain shoulder strap that seems to be adjustable.

Clutches

This season, clutches make a prominent appearance in various sizes, from small to larger pouches. Departing from the iconic Chanel quilting, these uncomplicated bags feature a chain wristlet adorned with CC detailing, some with diamanté detailing, some without. Displayed in black, pale pink, tan, and sparkling gold on the runway, they exude a laid-back vibe.

Envelope Bag

Introducing a new addition with a touch of vintage charm, the Chanel envelope clutch combines a classic aesthetic with contemporary flair. Presented in black caviar leather, the large-sized clutch features a flat quilting design without padding, complete with the iconic flap turn-lock clasp and a chain shoulder strap, providing versatile wear as a clutch or over the shoulder.

For those favoring oversized styles, the same envelope clutch is available in an extra-large edition, showcasing a patent leather finish. Additionally, a smaller patent option in mustard with black trim offers a crossbody wear option, boasting a longer shoulder strap.

There’s also a mini box-style bag available. Though more of a Small Leather Good (SLG) in size, these petite bags showcase a chain shoulder strap and flap design detailing. East West

In 2024, east-west bags are all the rage, and Chanel has entered their version of the elongated silhouette into the mix. Complete with a chain gracefully threading through the bag and securing to the CC turncock, this design offers a unique alternative for Chanel enthusiasts.

Camera Bags

For those exploring alternatives to flap handbags, a vintage-inspired miniature camera bag emanates rich retro charm. The chain on this mini appears adjustable, suggesting it could be worn as a longer shoulder bag, although precise details are yet to be confirmed. This piece graced the runway in black caviar leather and a lustrous deep red in a range of small sizes.
