What Color Should I Choose for My First Quota Bag?

Dear Pursebop

I have hit my spending for a C18 and am waiting for an offer from my SA. I can’t decide on the colour and the anxiety and worry that I’m choosing the wrong colour is killing me.

This is my first “quota” bag and I want it to be perfect. Can’t decide if I should go for gray tones (etain / vert amande / vert de gris) or lighter neutral tones with chèvre leather. Any suggestions? Is nata / mushroom easy to maintain?

And even with all the possible colors… I do know we will never know what color comes in…. And when it will be offered…

Dear C18 Color Confused:

There is no right or wrong answer when choosing a color for a bag such as a Constance 18. It is an amazing bag, holds more than you would imagine, and sits nicely cross body or on the shoulder. It comes in Epsom, Chevre, Evercolor, and other leathers and exotic skins at times. All the colors look nicely on a C-18 both neutrals and pops of color.

Our suggestion is to decide if the color bag offered to you at the time “makes your heart sing.” If it does, it is a winner. If you have any doubt about the color, you might consider passing it up and waiting for another color. It is a good idea to decide if you prefer a darker color such as black, etoupe, etain, vert amande, or vert de gris versus a lighter neutral color such as Mushroom, Nata, Gold, Gris Perle, or a light pastel color such as pink, blue or yellow. The benefit to the darker colors is they are easier to maintain and color transfer is not as much of an issue.

All colors tend to work as a neutral so any color offered would likely go with your existing style. You will be surprised how even a bag in a pop of color such as a red, pink, green, or blue will find a place in your wardrobe as you accessorize your outfits.

As you know, you may be offered a color that is not on your wishlist. However, all Hermès colors are beautiful. Hermès knows how to do color extremely well, and pairs the hardware color (gold or palladium or rose gold) they believe best suits the leather color.

One thing to be aware of with light colors such as Mushroom, Nata, Craie, Gris Perle, or light pastel colors, is color transfer from your denim or other clothes that may rub against your bag when wearing it on the shoulder or cross body. All Hermès bags are meant to be worn and enjoyed and can last a lifetime. However, lighter colors may show dirt or wear more easily if you are not careful.

It is often a good idea to check your bag and wipe it down if necessary at the end of the day with a soft cloth. This will allow any surface dirt or dust to be removed before storing your bag until the next time.

Good luck on getting your dream first Hermès bag.
