Hermès Has Reworked Its Most Iconic Detail Into the Sanglons Clutch

Some Hermès clutch bags boldly arrive to fanfare and acclaim; celebrated on the runway before becoming the stuff of legend. Others, like the Hermès Sanglons Clutch enter softly, but ultimately command presence. The bag skipped the runway in Spring-Summer 2025 debuting instead in the after-show presentation.

The Hermès Sanglon Clutch isn’t built around excessive embellishment, nor does it attempt to compete with Hermès’ more recognizable silhouettes. Here, form, proportion, and hardware do most of the work.

Inspiration begins with its name. Sanglons are the hallmark Hermès closure straps found on every Kelly and Birkin, which seal the bag with a Touret closure. Reimagined here in an oversized format, the straps frame the Sanglons Clutch, meeting at the top with a scaled-up plaque and Touret fastening that mirrors their width. A simple twist of the clasp releases the straps, allowing the box-like form to open with ease.

Beyond this defining mechanism, the Sanglons Clutch is otherwise pared back, taking on a hard-shell, minimalist box-shaped form. It is softened at the edges with subtly curved corners and refined corner top-stitching.

Measuring 7.6 x 3.9 x 1.5 inches, the Sanglons Clutch can comfortably house all the essentials you may need on an evening out, including any size iPhone, as well as a cardholder, and a lipstick. Inside, you’ll also find a mini mirror tucked neatly into a slip pocket for on-the-go touch ups.

Currently crafted in two leathers, the Sanglons Clutch is offered in heritage Box Calfskin as well as Chamkila Chèvre, finished with either gold or palladium-plated hardware. Across the leather offerings, it appears in classic shades like Black and Rouge H, alongside more statement offerings including Rouge de Coeur and the luminous Doré.

The choice of leather also subtly shifts the feel of the design. In Box calfskin, the clutch takes on a rigid, structured form, reinforcing its hard-shell construction. In Chamkila Chèvre, the finish is more supple, introducing a gentle flexibility that relaxes the silhouette ever so slightly.

For a bolder take on the Sanglons Clutch, Hermès introduced a Clouté interpretation for Fall–Winter 2025. Rendered in cream Box calfskin, the Sanglons Clutch Clouté is accented with spherical palladium studs and finished with matching hardware.

The Sanglons Clutch is positioned as one of Hermès’ most expensive clutch styles, with pricing that reflects both its construction and materials. In the United States, the Chamkila Chèvre version retails for $8,100 — similar to the Kelly Pochette at $8,250. While in Box calfskin, the price rises to $9,750, in line with Hermès heritage leather hierarchy.

As is often the case with Hermès, pricing varies significantly by region, with the US and Canada among some of the highest. In the UK, the Sanglons Clutch in Chamkila Chèvre retails for £4,890, which equates to approximately $6,604 — making the US price roughly 23% higher before sales tax. Similarly, the Box calfskin version is nearly $2000 less expensive in the EU: , €6,750 (approximately $7,908) compared to $9,750 in the US – and that’s before you consider the VAT refund and the approximate 10% sales tax in the US.
