Déjà Vu in Multicolore: Murakami Returns to Louis Vuitton for 2026

Just when we thought the rainbow-fueled Murakami era had finally wrapped up, Louis Vuitton gave us a serious case of déjà vu. Earlier this year, the Maison celebrated the 20th anniversary of its iconic collaboration with Takashi Murakami, kicking off 2025 with a Monogram Multicolore wave, followed by the revival of the Cherry Blossom and Cerises-adorned designs.

An homage to the Artycapucines line followed, thought to be the final chapter. However, whispers in the handbag world hinted otherwise—and now it’s true: love it or loathe it, Murakami is back. On January 2, 2026, Louis Vuitton is bringing the Murakami magic to a fresh set of silhouettes, including fan-favorite icons from the original Y2K lineup that didn’t appear in the first round of anniversary releases. This Murakami lineup joins an expansive release that celebrates the Maison’s 130th anniversary of the Monogram, launching on the same date. Clearly, when it comes to Murakami and Louis Vuitton, the colorful party never really ends.

Much like the previous 20th-anniversary drops, this next wave goes big—covering everything from SLGs and accessories to footwear and travel pieces. With the collection set to be another drop brimming with vibrant accents, we’re spotlighting the key handbags to know for January 2026.

Travel Alma

A design missing from the first wave of Monogram Multicolore, the Travel Alma makes its debut with a contemporary twist on Y2K charm. Crafted in White Monogram Multicolore canvas with Vachetta leather, it features the collections signature studded details and an adjustable, removable shoulder strap with a 19.7-inch maximum drop. The bow-shaped clochette and luggage tag add playful accents, while a front pocket secured with an S-lock offers a practical spot for your passport or phone. Measuring 17.7 x 13.8 x 8.7 inches, it’s roomy enough for a weekend getaway while remaining cabin-size. The Y2K coded Travel Alma will set you back $5,750.
