Chanel Flask Bag 2019

Chanel is no stranger to quirky bags. From clutches shaped like Russian nesting dolls to perfume-bottle minaudières, the brand has a knack for turning unexpected objects into pieces of art. (Read: 10 Eccentric Chanel Bags We Can’t Get Over) PurseBop herself is quite a fan of Chanel’s unique creations, and boasts, among others, a “Lego” clutch and a sparkly Eve On The Moon minaudière.

Well, it’s safe to say Chanel has done it again. This time, with the new Flask Bag, which the brand recently released online for $5,000. And the bag looks exactly as you’d expect: it’s Chanel’s take on a classic flask, with a leather holder and chain. Let’s take a closer look, shall we?

Features

As for the flask itself, it’s a cylindrical bottle of gold-tone metal, with a removable black top that has its own small chainlink strap. In true Chanel fashion, the black top is emblazoned with the CC logo; even when it’s separated from the flask, there’s no questioning who made it.

The bag gets really interesting when it comes to the leather covering, which effectively turns the flask into a bag. All the classic Chanel elements are here: quilted black leather, a gold-toned chainlink strap and a small interlocking CC charm. The covering, we assume, can be carried on the shoulder with or without the flask inside—though we don’t know how practical that’d be! (Or how practical the bag is as a whole, aside from being a portable bottle.)

Chanel’s Previous Flask

Admittedly, this isn’t the first time Chanel has sold a flask bag, but this one is quite different from the earlier iteration.

The only other flask bag Chanel has released is from the Scotland Pre-Fall collection in 2013. The Sporran Flask Bag was circular and looked more like a traditional drinking flask—fitting, of course, for the Scotch-loving Scottish! It was also smaller, with various color options, and retailed at the time for $3,625 (small) and $4,775 (large). At $5,000, the 2019 Flask Bag is essentially the same price, but an entirely different style… Which do you prefer?
