New Handbags: What’s to Come in PreFall, Fall and Winter 2018

Labor Day — the unofficial end of summer in the United States — is a mere three weeks away and retailers are filling up now with the hottest fall offerings. There’s something old, something new, and pretty much something for everyone. Here’s a roundup of some of the coming attractions for PreFall, Fall and Winter 2018 from your favorite top brands.

Interestingly, as we reflect on the coming attractions we covered during Paris Fashion Week, it seems that almost anything goes for Fall/Winter 2018. You will find big and small, structured and slouchy, backpacks and crossbodies, and lots of logos. If you missed it the first time, you can get your fill of the 1980s, 1990s and the millenium.  Older (and other) bag-onistas may finally be able to buy the bag coveted in youth but unaffordable back then. Or, just jump ahead into the future with some of the new styles.

Dior

Dior saddles up with its John Galliano-designed saddle bag from the 2000s, loaded up on logos and made sure there was a cross body strap for everything. It adds texture with textile fabrications, taking old modes to a new look. (Read Dior Gets Back on the Saddle Bag and more from Fall 2018)

Louis Vuitton

Louis Vuitton, following its summer wave bag series, adds to it’s prefall lineup with patches.  It then goes small for Fall with a variety of variations on the petit malles, petit boites and other handhelds (both large and small), playing on the futuristic theme of its Fall/Winter 2018 Paris fashion show.  (Read Louis Vuitton Fall 2018 is Elegant and Futuristic)

Chanel

Chanel has a completely new bag coming – called the 31 bag, it is a foldover bag with a hand and (often) a shoulder strap.  Bowling bags also are big . . . along with big bags generally. (Read: Join the Chanel Navy in Hamburg) Apparently size does matter after all.

Hermès

And lastly, Hermès has something old and something new.  Apparently the popular Kelly (Ado) backpack is returning from the turn of the century – 2000 not 1900 – albeit this time without handles or feet.  Hermes also is introducing a new Kelly – the 24/24 – a slouchier version of the original with a back pocket. (Read: Looks Like a Slouchy Kelly but its Really a 24/24) Also, ladies, don’t forget to check out the men’s bags
