Louis Vuitton Cruise 2024 Handbags: The Life Aquatic

Set in the middle of Northern Itay’s Lake Maggiore, Louis Vuitton’s Cruise 2024 fashion show was inspired by both the beauty of the water and the Isola Bella of the Isle Borromeo. Developed in the 1600s by the Borromeo family, which has owned it since this is the first such event held there. It’s no wonder the brand chose the location. As Louis Vuitton described it as:

“A treasure chest of Baroque art suspended over the water.”

No doubt the lush surroundings and baroque backdrop inspired this romantic and aquatic-themed collection. Models strutted through the Palazzo gardens, in fashions sticking to a neutral color palette, accented with pops of orange, yellow, aqua, and cobalt blue. Aquatic themes were consistent throughout the collection – with sporty scuba meets high-fashion garments, as well as more classic floral dresses. Romantic and elaborate gowns were adorned with ruffles and sequins – reminiscent of fins and scales – think mermaid-core couture!

When it comes to bags, classics have once again been reimagined. As in the recently revealed Fall 2023 collection, hallmark styles like the Bolide, Speedy, and Petite Malle reemerged (Read more: Louis Vuitton Pre-Fall Collection Bags Walk a Bridge in Korea). Additionally, we see updated variations on the Atlantis, and Side Trunk – with an all-new sand-tone Monogram. From signature trunks to all-new archive-inspired moon-shaped monogram bags – there is lots to unpack! The sizes of bags ranged from the micro clutches to the oversized and laid-back tote – all with an easygoing attitude.

Let’s take a closer look at these new Louis Vuitton bags…

Crescent Shaped

Making its debut in the Cruise 2024 collection is the new moon-shaped ‘Looping’ shoulder bag. Complete with a signature Louis Vuitton lock, the bag shown is fabricated in a sand-tone monogram canvas, with a leather shoulder strap. As discussed below, this seems to be a new colorway for the brand.

Similar in tone to the iridescent Monogram Glam in beige spotted on the runway at the LV Pre-Fall 2023 collection, this new Monogram is a variation of the classic canvas, with a matte finish. With a creamy off-white base and beige Monogram – this new colorway is ready for vacation.

The Timeless Trunk

Renowned for its heritage pieces, the Louis Vuitton trunk remains synonymous with the brand. The ever-so-popular Petite Malle has been reimagined for the Cruise 2024 collection. Crafted in an all-new and innovative leather-effect material, this Trianon gray micro bag is a fresh take on the classic Petite Malle. The Petite Malle was spotted in the oversized quilted pattern, black, and in a sage-tone green on the runway.

Iconic and timeless, the classic vanity case has been freshened up for the Cruise 2024 runway. This time round, it’s crafted in the quilted design, complete with vachetta trim. Texturally, the bag appears to be a heavyweight gray-tone canvas, while the light beige vachetta emphasizes the quilting.

The Side Trunk

It is no secret that travel trunks are synonymous with LV, therefore no show is complete without one. The LV Side Trunk first made its debut in the 2023 Cruise collection and is a modern take on a timeless classic.

This time around, we see the Side Trunk in striking colorways – with some great pops of color. Seen on the runway in cobalt blue with tan, baby blue with red, off-white with yellow detailing, and a graphic criss-cross design. This trendy and laid-back piece is complete with a short shoulder strap, embossed Monogram, and the classic design features of the infamous LV trunks. The sporty take has technical details and an oversized and chunky zip.

Oversized Opulent Quilting

Playful and oversized quilting graced LV’s 2024 Cruise collection in the form of various bags. Bags getting the big treatment include the classic Alma, Petite Malle, a timeless clutch, LV Twist, and the all-new ‘Looping’ bag. Most feature contrasting black leather trims and detailing, while others have a pop of bold color such as yellow or blue.

The New GO-14

LV’s GO-14 is a modern classic and has been updated by the fashion house over the years. This time, the GO-14 has been reimagined in beautiful colorways inspired by the Borromeo Palazzo. The large tactile puffy quilts make for a contemporary take on an elegant shape with the iconic LV twist lock. Colorwise, the bag was seen on the runway in pale yellow, muted gray-tone blue, aqua, and beige.

Sand-Tone Monogram

In this 2024 Cruise collection, we see plenty of sand-tone and white Monogram canvas. The iconic and much-loved Alma has been re-imagined in this new sand-tone canvas, complete with classic vachetta leather, and a contrasting black base.

Also seen is a new-shaped bag in this Cruise collection. This cube-shaped bag is crafted in the new lighter Monogram canvas, complete with a wristlet. This unusual-shaped piece isn’t far removed from classic LV vanity cases.

The Sporty Speedy

A timeless classic from LV, the Speedy was bound to make an appearance in this latest collection. This time round it’s reimagined in a miniature size, in a cream tone with contrasting black and red piping. While not quilted per se, the contrast red crisscross graphic design emulates classic quilts. Black leather handles and trim complete this new addition to the Speedy family.

Aquatic Sequins

Inspired by aquatic themes, this sea-inspired bag is fit for a mermaid! Crafted in delicate shell-shaped sequins, in the most perfect shades of aqua, this delicate piece is certainly a talking point.

Slouchy and Laid Back

This 2023 runway certainly affirms that big bags are making a big comeback. As seen in the LV Pre-Fall 2023 collection, the Atlantis bag appeared again for Cruise 2024. Some may describe it as a tote, while others may refer to it as a sack! The oversized, and incredibly slouchy hand-held tote is seen here in sand-tone canvas with a contrasting black leather luggage tag.

Maximal Backpacks

Backpacks are certainly making a comeback. This time round, Louis Vuitton has gone maximal in size. Similar in design to the timeless LV Noe bucket bag, this care-free catch-all, can be worn in multiple ways. These oversized duffle-style backpacks are sporty yet chic, worn hand-help on the runway, the bags have double shoulder straps for hands-free wear. Crafted in classic Monogram canvas in sand-tone, with complementary vachetta detailing, and a black leather base – the bag is certainly sports luxe.

Additionally, Louis Vuitton showed these epi leather bags in bright cobalt blue, tan, and tri-color – red, white, and black. And as a special treat, these oversized tote-style backpacks are complete with a classic LV luggage tag.

The Mini Satchel

Reminiscent of a classic satchel, this mini top-handle bag is fabricated in a gray-tone technical material, with classic vachetta and brown leather trim. While it may not be particularly generous in size, this sporty take on a timeless satchel is one of the more understated accessories within this collection.

The Sophisticated Shell

Another curved shape graced the runway alongside the new ‘Looping’ bag. This time, it was a black leather shell bag that caught our eye. Small but perfectly formed, the smooth leather suits the natural form perfectly. The question on everyone’s mind is will the shell become the new heart bag?
