Not every Hermès bag needs a grand debut. Some simply arrive – quiet, self-contained, and immaculately designed. The Tablier Sellier, introduced in the Fall/Winter 2024 collection, is one such piece. With no overt branding, no decorative excess, and no intent to compete for attention, it’s Hermès minimalism at its most refined.

A modern reinterpretation of the 1996 Dalvy bag, the Tablier Sellier updates the classic structured silhouette with a cleaner, more streamlined design. Its name translates to “saddler’s apron,” – a fitting reference not only to Hermès’ equestrian heritage, but also the bag’s design. The elongated shoulder straps echo the neck look of an apron, while side buckles allow the silhouette to be softly cinched. Like the Dalvy, it features the same softly arched profile. But instead of the original’s north-south shape, the Tablier Sellier takes on a compact east-west orientation, measuring 10.2 x 6.3 x 3.5 inches. The result is a more contemporary, effortless feel.
One of the most notable updates to the Tablier Sellier is its construction. Unlike the original Dalvy’s all-leather build, this new iteration combines the leather exterior with a durable, removable Militaire canvas interior pouch. Styles in Barenia Faubourg pair the rich leather with a contrasting beige canvas, while the other colorways opt for matching canvas and leather. This clever design makes the bag two-in-one: wear it sleek and structured as is, or simply slip out the pouch to use separately for a more casual, versatile look.
The Tablier Sellier replaces the Dalvy’s formal top handles with elongated straps offering a 9-inch drop, designed for comfortable shoulder wear. This change strikes a balance between vintage elegance and modern practicality. Hermès features signature Clou de Selle hardware, the engraved circular closure also seen on the Herbag. Functionally, the Clou de Selle acts as a central fastening point: set on a stud, it threads through both the canvas pouch and leather outer, securing the open-top design into one cohesive form. For the finishing touch, additional hardware details include side buckles, reminiscent of The Row’s Margaux, that not only redefine the silhouette but also help secure the removable inner pouch. Finally, four metal feet protect the base, reinforcing the bag’s practical design.

Thus far, the Tablier Sellier has been spotted in classic neutral shades such as Gold, Noir, and Gris Misty, paired with gold or palladium hardware finishes. It is crafted in a range of Hermès leathers, including Barenia Faubourg, Swift, and Box Calfskin. Priced at $5,200 in 2024, the Tablier Sellier’s price likely has increased following Hermès’ recent adjustments in response to US tariffs. Even so, it remains one of the few Hermès bags available for under $7,000, making it a coveted entry point into the Maison’s lineup.
