New Celine Bags from the Summer 2024 ‘Tomboy’ Collection

Early on Friday, October 20, Celine dropped a surprise fashion show video debuting its Spring Summer 2024 collection. Hedi Slimane lived up to his reputation as the master of effortlessly blending casual and cool aesthetics, with a nod to the 1990s in the affectionately titled Celine Tomboy grouping.

Filmed at the impressive Bibliothèque Nationale de France, situated in the heart of Paris, the interior featured an abundance of books, including Celine editions, no less. Could this be the most chic library of all? The architectural views, coupled with its prime location on Rue Vivienne, right across the street from one of Celine’s Ateliers, served as a setting reminiscent of a sophisticated school trip.

The collection itself is a brilliant blend of 90s New York grunge, Cannes-ready chic, and a sprinkling of back-to-school vibes. Hedi Slimane’s penchant for effortlessly melding edgy with refined elements shines through. There are plenty of sparkly mini dresses teamed with fur coats and leather, while silk pieces are paired with oversized blazers. Denim plays an important role here too, styled with classic cropped boucle jackets, and graphic tees – Parisian chic at its best.

Turning our attention to the bags, Celine introduces an array of fresh additions to the much-loved Triomphe line (Read: Falling Head Over Heels for ‘New’ Celine – Buying a Celine Triomphe in Paris). When it comes to size, there’s something to fit everyone. With sizes ranging from micro to medium, the majority of the offerings were 90s-inspired shoulder bags, with a scattering of miniature crossbody styles as well. The collection offers a variety of textures for the upcoming season, including classic snakeskin, and crocodile. Of course, the Triomphe emblem makes its presence felt throughout the entire collection.

Color-wise, the palette remains fairly natural, from bright white and sleek black to versatile tan, beige, and rich chocolate brown – all everyday essentials.

Apparently, there are no rules when it comes to hardware in Celine Tomboy. Select from the timeless elegance of gold-tone metal or the cool city-girl silver.

Victoire

One standout addition is the Victoire, a gentle departure from the structured Triomphe line. Boasting a laid-back, slouchy design, with a flap closure, and a versatile chain shoulder strap, the Victoire is available in several colorways and leathers including crocodile.

Styled as a classic shoulder bag on the runway, the chain on the Victoire also can be adjusted for crossbody wear. Could this perhaps be the new ‘must-have’ Celine Triomphe bag?

Lola

Another shoulder bag option is the new Lola bag. Its baguette-like design sits comfortably under the arm. Boasting a carefree attitude, it effortlessly transitions from day to night. Seen on the runway in white shiny calfskin with silver hardware, as well as striking snakeskin with gold hardware, the Lola is distinguished by its bold and iconic Triomphe logo fastening.

Mini Chain Claude

Small remains big this season, and that includes mini-sized bags. Getting an exotic makeover is Celine’s Mini Chain Claude bag. It is reimagined in black Niloticus Crocodile, complete with a delicate chain shoulder strap. Styled on the runway as an elegant shoulder bag and also a mini clutch, the Mino Chain Claude can transition through every season.

Shoulder Bag

Another new addition unveiled in the Tomboy collection is the Shoulder Bag. Yes, that appears to be its name. It was shown both in rich chocolate brown leather with contrast stitching and in bold snakeskin. Distinguished by its slightly slouchy silhouette, this fresh take boasts a large flap closure. While the Shoulder Bag might seem a stepsister to the popular Ava, one difference is the slightly smaller Triomphe logo emblem. While it isn’t groundbreaking in terms of design, this carefree and casual shoulder bag suggests day-to-night versatility.
