Think of Hawaii, and you’re instantly daydreaming about endless rows of tropical palm trees, white sands, hula dancers… and Birkins? Well maybe not that last part, but with my birthday landing smack bang in the middle of our vacation, shopping was definitely on the agenda to break up the mai tai drinking, turtle spotting and lazy swimming.
We were staying at the Royal Hawaiian which was just a short stroll to the Waikiki Hermes. This store has recently undergone a revamp that took several years turning it into a global flagship that is now a sight to behold. It truly is worth a visit even just to marvel at the detail that has gone into it. It is now a three story wonder with a living, breathing nature wall that spans the staircase.
Seeing as I was there in the lead up to Christmas, the store itself was a bustling hive of activity with the majority of shoppers being long term clients from Japan. There was also the odd celebrity around with Elizabeth Moss of the Handmaid’s Tale right next to me trying on shoes. My sales assistant took me on a wonderful tour culminating on him showing me a private room complete with Hermes roller skates “where the magic happens” as he put it. Luckily for me, the stars aligned and some magic certainly happened.
I can’t think of a better birthday present or a bag that is more “me”. This color has been holding the number two position on my Hermes wish list for many years, so I was very excited to cross a line through that entry. It is the first bag I packed for my trip to Paris (and my most carried too), with more on those adventures coming up. So, for now, can you guess the color? It is a showstopper and what pink dreams are made of.
