Louis Vuitton Goes Intergalactic for Fall 2024 – Here are the New Bags

As raindrops painted the Parisian streets, the Louvre pyramids glowed through the gloom, setting the stage for the Louis Vuitton Fall 2024 runway show on Tuesday, March 5th. The iconic Cour Carrée du Louvre played host to the finale of Paris Fashion Week, as Nicolas Ghesquière showcased his 10th-anniversary collection for the iconic French fashion powerhouse.

Against this atmospheric backdrop, was a sci-fi installation by artist Philippe Parreno, infusing an otherworldly dimension into the runway experience. In a reminiscent nod to his debut show for Louis Vuitton, Ghesquière placed a typewriter message on every seat. “It’s a beautiful journey. I’m continuing it,” affirmed the designer, having recently renewed his contract at Louis Vuitton for another five years.

Louis Vuitton’s Fall 2024 collection embarks on an intergalactic odyssey, presenting a striking fusion of futuristic design and timeless sophistication. Drawing inspiration from Ghesquière’s artistic ventures over the past decade, the runway showcases ice-gray sharp tailoring that epitomizes precision and structure. The frosty color palette is dominated by blues and steel grays. Ghesquière’s homage to his previous collections becomes evident as the collection introduces playful textures such as gold-embroidered jackets, leather skirts, and feather trims, creating an eclectic blend of opulence within the minimalist space.

And then there’s the bags. Classic designs take on a new life with fresh iterations of the Monogram print in Louis Vuitton’s Fall 2024 collection. A unique twist unfolds with Trompe-l’œil prints, skillfully emulating Louis Vuitton luggage on bags, paired with matching dresses. Meanwhile, adding an eclectic touch to the lineup is the avant-garde egg-shaped Monogram bag.

Available in sizes ranging from mini to MM, this versatile piece graced the runway in an array of styles. PM and MM versions showcase a new canvas, featuring an icy-gray tone Monogram print complemented by classic Vachetta or dark brown leather details.

Meanwhile, the miniature renditions emerge in tan and cream hues, adorned with additional gold-tone hardware compared to the original design. These more occasion-ready alternatives of the Side Trunk also come complete with a delicate chain shoulder strap, adding a touch of sophistication to this refreshed accessory.

Trompe-l’œil

Louis Vuitton’s Fall 2024 runway presentation showcased an array of Trompe-l’œil Ready-to-Wear and accessories, paying homage to the brand’s rich history.

Mirroring the designs of classic Louis Vuitton luggage, the bags are transformed with graphic prints, and each piece comes complete with a printed luggage tag. This interesting design approach extends to the coveted Side Trunk, further highlighting the brand’s commitment to reinventing its timeless pieces for the modern era.

Alma

Among the notable transformations is the Louis Vuitton Alma, which mirrors the Ready-to-Wear aesthetic with the Trompe-l’œil treatment. The Alma features an all-over luggage graphic motif, replacing the classic Monogram pattern. This innovative design choice not only revitalizes the iconic Alma silhouette but also introduces a playful and stylish twist, seamlessly blending classic elegance with contemporary flair.

The Alma was also presented in a more classic rendition, featuring a tone-on-tone gray Monogram. As an aside, it’s fascinating that both Hermès and Louis Vuitton have highlighted these classic zip-top styles on their retrospective Fall 2024 runways with the Bolide and Alma.
