Shown at Long Museum West Bund, Nicolas Ghesquière teamed up with Beijing-based artist Sun Yitian, in an aim to capture an enchanting odyssey through fashion. Known for her vibrant paintings of mass-produced objects and cartoon-like animals, Sun Yitian’s collaboration added a unique flair to the collection:

“When my artworks are translated into clothing, bags, or perfumes, they become much closer to people, and this interaction is lively and unpredictable.”

Louis Vuitton’s Pre-Fall 2024 collection presents a unique fusion of two distinct creative visions – not only the collaborative efforts with Sun Yitian but also Nicolas Ghesquière’s signature designs. It’s a two-in-one showcase, and with that, comes a range of styles.

Models descended a sleek black staircase and walked along a sparse runway, infusing the space with bursts of print and color. Sun Yitian’s collaborative touch was unmistakable, as a myriad of animal-printed ensembles graced the runway, echoing the themes seen in the pre-show social media campaign. Following closely behind the animal collection, Ghesquière presented his favored futuristic silhouettes followed, boasting an eclectic mix of floral prints, stripes, and textures, alongside more minimal mono-tone looks.

As for the accessories, leather bags commanded attention, overshadowing Louis Vuitton’s iconic canvas. Among them, the Side Trunk appeared in a variety of sizes and colorways. Additionally, reinterpretations of LV’s bags, such as the GO-14, Capucines, and the Atlantis, emerged in new proportions in black, as well as beige, pastel yellow, and baby pink. Of course, the Monogram also was present, shown in all-black or adorned with Sun Yitian’s animal artwork, with just a sprinkling of the classic canvas.

Let’s take a closer look at the bags. . .

Sun Yitian x Louis Vuitton

At the top of the show was the imaginative collaboration between Sun Yitian’s cartoon animal art and Louis Vuitton’s classic designs, which will be released alongside the Pre-Fall 2024 collection. From the leopard-head-shaped wallet on chain to the Boite Chapeau featuring a charmingly sad Dalmatian motif, Yitian’s signature style shone through. Even the Side Trunk received the animal treatment on the runway, as Yitian brought the animals to life on the timeless Monogram canvas, adding a delightful twist to the classics.

But that’s not all. Expect everything from animal-adorned SLGs to handbags, and even luggage, featuring the main characters – the duck, dalmatian, zebra, leopard, and rabbit. These furry friends will grace a range of handbags from the classic Neverfull to the Pochette Metis, Square Trunk, Alma, and the OnTheGo Tote.

Petite Malle

While not receiving the animal treatment, the Petite Malle underwent a whimsical transformation for this Pre-Fall collection in collaboration with Sun Yitiain. Crafted in glossy calfskin and adorned with puffy leather trim, this version features an inflatable-inspired aesthetic in vibrant shades of yellow, orange, and blue. Complemented by an equally plush top handle, this Petite Malle radiates child-like charm.

Side Trunk & Slim Trunk

The Side Trunk has become a staple in Nicolas Ghesquière’s repertoire since its debut in Louis Vuitton’s Cruise 2023 collection. Dotted throughout the runway lineup, this versatile piece graced the catwalk in both PM and MM sizes, as well as the new Slim Trunk iteration which boasts a more streamlined east-west silhouette.

From timeless black with silver-tone hardware to delicate shades like baby pink, and pastel yellow, alongside brick red, and tan, not forgetting the iconic monogram. The Side Trunk was worn hand-held throughout, and styled with the delicate chain strap or a wide, thick leather option.
